Bottom Line

About a 15-minute drive from downtown Plymouth, the upscale Mirbeau Inn & Spa at the Pinehills offers a relaxing and indulgent getaway for couples and friends traveling together. Built to resemble a French country manor house, the 50-room inn showcases beautiful, Monet-inspired gardens in a peaceful setting adjacent to the Pinehills community’s two golf courses. Highlights include a gourmet French restaurant, a 14,000-square-foot spa with a beauty salon and 14 treatment rooms, and a huge fitness center with steam rooms and free yoga and exercise classes -- but no pool. Rates can be high, but they're not out of line for a resort-style property with a spa and fine dining. For a less-expensive alternative that's closer to town, travelers could consider the Hilton Garden Inn Plymouth.

Mirbeau Inn & Spa Plymouth

Scene

An elegant and relaxing inn with a charming "French country manor house" theme

The Mirbeau Inn has succeeded in its attempt to copy a French country manor house. It’s a quiet and relaxing retreat, with a Monet-inspired garden around a bi-level pond spanned by a bright-green bridge. Cobblestone paths wind past natural landscaping, including blooming lavender. Adirondack chairs circle a fire pit next to the peaceful pond. Wood beams span the ceilings of the lobby area that has a small but striking wooden registration desk, a cozy fireplace, fine-wood floors, and Monet reproductions decorating the walls. The vibe is elegant but charming and relaxed. Velour armchairs and sofas in rich colors invite guests to sit and take in the surroundings. Couples on romantic getaways and friends on spa weekends are drawn to the Mirbeau's surroundings and features. Wedding parties are seen frequently on summer weekends as well.

Location

Quiet, somewhat isolated setting next to two golf courses, about a 15-minute drive to Plymouth

The inn is located in a quiet and rather isolated setting that’s about a three-minute drive off the Pilgrims Highway, which runs north to downtown Plymouth and south to Cape Cod. Its countryside setting borders the Pinehills planned community, which has two 18-hole golf courses that run along the inn’s grounds. The Pinehills Golf Club clubhouse is a 12-minute walk or a two-minute drive away, and there's an Italian restaurant and cafe within a few minutes' walk. Pinehills also has a grocery, which is about a five-minute walk, and a few shops are nearby. All the attractions in the Plymouth Cultural District, including the Mayflower II replica ship, Long Beach, and Plymouth Rock, are a 12- to 15-minute drive, as is the Plimoth Plantation and Plymouth Country Club. Barnstable, on Cape Cod, is about a 30-minute drive, and Provincetown, at the far tip of the Cape, is about an 80-minute drive. Approximate drive times to Boston Logan International Airport and T.F. Green International Airport in Rhode Island are 65 and 80 minutes, respectively.

Rooms

Spacious and elegantly decorated with rich colors and dark wood, with separate soaking tubs and showers

Mirabeau Inn & Spa's 50 plush rooms are elegantly decorated in a traditional French style of dark, antique-style wood furniture, rich colors, and intricately patterned drapes, bedspreads, bolster pillows, and padded headboards. Each room has a featured color, such as lavender, crimson, or gold. Some ceilings have exposed beams, and all rooms feature lovely gas fireplaces and dark-patterned carpeting. Monet reproductions extend the French country theme. Rooms are spacious, and they include armchairs and desks. Beds are either a single king or queen bed, or two queen beds. There are a few suites. The large and lovely bathrooms are the most impressive feature. White wood and black granite vanities with dual sinks are islands that separate the claw-foot soaking tubs and spacious walk-in showers with rainfall showerheads. Floors are quality slate-gray tile, and showers are framed in white tiles. Some rooms have balconies or patios, but all rooms have nice views of either the gardens, golf courses, or Pinehills community village green. Standard amenities include turndown service with treats, robes, flat-screen TVs, Keurig coffeemakers, free bottled water, and free Wi-Fi.
