Bottom Line

The 208-room Marquis Reforma Hotel & Spa is a four-pearl property situated in a prime location on bustling Paseo de la Reforma. Guests can walk to many upscale restaurants, shops, and businesses, as well as major attractions. Modern rooms are pleasant, if a little soulless, and come with flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, and minibars. Suites have separate sitting areas, though keep in mind that Wi-Fi isn't free in rooms. Three restaurants offer a variety of cuisines, and the bar features live music. The most notable feature here is the spectacular spa with an indoor pool -- which score raves from previous guests. With its full array of features, this hotel competes well with the city's high-end chains like JW Marriott, but its rates are much lower.

Marquis Reforma Hotel & Spa

Scene

Upscale hotel with big-ticket draws that's suitable for both business and leisure travelers

Housed in a 14-story glass and pink concrete postmodern building, this hotel certainly packs in the upscale extras, even if its style sometimes verges on dated rather than elegant. Like much of the hotel, the elegant lobby is awash in marble that covers floors, columns, and walls. A water feature with statues makes a striking statement in the center, and Art Deco and Art Nouveau design features are used throughout. Seating groups provide places where guests can gather in the lobby, which can get quite busy at times. There are several restaurants that are popular with previous guests, though the spa is certainly the biggest draw, and a welcome escape in this hectic part of town. During the week, the hotel draws mostly business travelers with business in the area or attending events at the hotel. On weekends, the clientele turns to well-heeled tourists who find the location convenient for exploring the city.

Location

In Colonia Cuauhtemoc, along Paseo de la Reforma and within walking distance of most everything

This hotel is located on tree-lined Paseo de la Reforma, one the city's most important and elegant boulevards, in Colonia Cuauhtemoc. The area is full of office buildings, as well as cultural attractions and trendy shops and restaurants. The 55-story Torre Mayor is just three minutes on foot from the hotel, and Chapultepec Park is two blocks away. Chapultepec Castle can be reached in 13 minutes on foot, the Museum of Modern Art in 15 minutes, and the renowned National Museum of Anthropology in about 20 minutes. Across Paseo de la Reforma is Zona Rosa, the city's party district, while trendy Juarez and Roma are just beyond that, within a 10- to 15-minute walk. Plan on about 50 minutes to reach Juarez International Airport by car, though traffic varies from heavy to light depending on the time of day.

Rooms

Pleasant rooms and suites with flat-screen TVs, minibars, and air-conditioning, but fees for Wi-Fi disappoint

Elegant rooms and suites mix modern and vintage styles, with dark wood marble-topped furniture, plush carpeting, soft earth-tone color schemes, and funky light fixtures. Amenities include flat-screen TVs, minibars, coffeemakers, air-conditioning, and safes, but Wi-Fi is unfortunately not included with rates. Suites add separate sitting areas with colorful polka-dot sofas and ottomans, plus a dining table and chairs. When the details are taken together, the look is almost dated, and doesn't have much in the way of elegant local style. Attractive bathrooms are lined in marble and granite and offer shower/tub combos, upscale toiletries, hairdryers, and magnifying mirrors. Suites have jetted tubs, and some have separate showers. Robes and slippers are provided. Some suites have huge terraces with Astroturf, potted plants, and a dining table and chairs. Views are of the city. Turn-down service is provided nightly.

This hotel offers everything needed for a business or leisure trip. There are three restaurants featuring a selection of Spanish, Japanese, and Mexican cuisines, plus a sports and piano bar. Breakfast is served in the Market Gourmet Cafe for a fee. The menu includes Mexican, Asian, Argentinian, and Italian selections with a Mexican touch. Open all day, Los Canarios offers Spanish and Mexican fusion cuisine. La Cuchara de San Sebastian presents international favorites and traditional Spanish dishes in a quiet and comfortable space. Alfresco dining is available on the terrace, with views of Paseo de la Reforma. The Sikeiros Sports and Piano Bar is a sophisticated space for drinks, light fare, and live music. Room service is available 24/7.

The hotel's spectacular spa is well-liked by previous guests, and provides a full menu of facial, body, and massage treatments, plus hydrotherapy tubs, a sauna, and steam room. The 16,000-square-foot space is lovely, decked in marble for a high-end finish. Even the hotel's fitness center is attractive. Enclosed in a glass dome, it provides lots of natural light for working out on the multiple cardio and weight training machines. An indoor pool is likewise housed in a beautiful, sunny space. It's worth noting that the pool and spa are restricted to adults only.

The hotel's striking 18,000-square-foot conference space includes flexible rooms that accommodate gatherings both large and small. The sophisticated grand ballroom can host up to 1,000 people.
