Perched on a small public beach and within a 10-minute walk to a bigger stretch of sand, this upper-middle-range boutique property's proximity to the water and to Old Town Budva is its main selling point. It also features spa and fitness facilities, along with a game room and playground for kids. Twenty one chic and clean rooms and apartments have minibars and flat-screen TVs, and some feature balconies. While the coastal location is a big draw -- sea-view room terraces and the solid on-site restaurant open out to gorgeous views of the water -- many amenities, including breakfast and fitness facilities, come with extra charges. For a larger, upscale hotel, travelers may prefer the Queen of Montenegro, which has indoor and outdoor pools.
Scene
A modern boutique property with well-kept interiors and gorgeous beachfront views
Hotel Aleksandar is deceptively simple from the outside, with plain black shutters on white concrete walls that resemble an apartment building. The small lobby is clean and modern, but the polyester white drapes and plasticky sofas facing a gray wall put a slight damper on its otherwise sleek decor. Other areas are much more spruced up; green lawns are well-kept, the small spa is entirely outfitted in brilliant blue tiles, and the restaurant features a lovely wall of plants and glass windows for lots of natural light underneath a terrace deck overlooking the sea and St. Nikola Island. The restaurant can get crowded during breakfast, and music playing all day throughout the hotel might bother some. However, the stunning beach views from the rooms and dining area are usually enough to mesmerize the families and couples staying here.
Location
On a small public beach, walkable to the famous Old Town
Hotel Aleksandar sits on a small public beach on one end of the Budva Riviera, and is within a 10-minute walk to the larger, more popular Becici Beach. It's also adjacent to the vast Slovenska Plaza Resort, a tourist complex of hotels and villas, shops, salons, restaurants, nightlife, and medical facilities. The location is convenient, but for more local flavor outside the Plaza, the restaurants, churches, and famous Citadel fortress in the Old Town of Budva are a 15-minute walk away.
Other tourist spots can be reached by bus, though taxis are also available at the Slovenski Plaza. There are two bus stops within a five-minute walk from the hotel. A 15-minute ride will reach the elite beach town of St. Stefan, while it takes 25 minutes to get to the fishing town of Petrovac. St. Nikola Island can be reached by boat from the Budva Marina, a 15-minute walk from the hotel.
Tivat Airport and Podgorica Airport, are 30- and 90-minute drives away, respectively. Hotel Aleksandar offers shuttle service to Tivat Airport upon request.
Rooms
Chic interiors open to beautiful terrace or balcony views
Rooms at the Hotel Aleksandar are chicly simple and clean; crisp white walls are unadorned, and some furniture is old, but thick striped carpeting, wood wall panels behind the beds, and pastel accent cushions on the armchairs and sofas are welcome touches of color. The granite-tiled bathrooms in Standard Rooms have walk-in showers with handheld showerheads along with single vanity sinks. Each bathroom also includes hairdryers and free toiletries.
All nine Standard Rooms at the hotel are doubles, and have pull-out sofa beds. Standard Rooms come with sea or mountain views, and while six have full terraces, three have French balconies. All include minibars, but no coffee-and-tea-making facilities. Additionally, all rooms have safes, desks, air-conditioning, LCD TVs, and free, but somewhat slow, Wi-Fi. Apartments include fully-equipped kitchenettes, large pull-out sofa beds, and large bathroom vanities. Most Apartments come with mountain views, but no terraces, though some larger varieties do have terraces with beach views.
Facilities for disabled guests can be accommodated upon advance notice.
