The mostly contemporary but slightly dated decor at the cheerful Grande Shores Ocean Resort doesn’t stop families from visiting and having a great time. With 11 water features, a rooftop pool, a small gym, kids’ club, and American restaurant with a hot breakfast buffet, guests are kept well entertained -- which is great since the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and Promenade take 14 minutes to reach by car. The 231 rooms offer coffeemakers and mini-fridges, while efficiencies and condos add kitchens into the mix for a self-sufficient stay. Free DVD rentals and a laundry room are nice extras for families. Captain’s Quarters Resort is much closer to the Myrtle Beach action and also has a bowling alley, seasonal beach shack, and pool with a play pirate ship.
Scene
Casual resort with an upbeat atmosphere and a clientele of families
There’s a cheerful atmosphere to Grande Shores Ocean Resort, in part due to the rave reviews of quick and efficient service by staff. It’s a casual hotel, which shows in the lobby -- a small area with tiled floors and a small seating area filled with a few woven chairs and floral-printed armchairs. Though not luxurious by any means, the rooftop pool offers great ocean views and many of the outdoor areas are polished and manicured with palm trees. The restaurant has a contemporary look and warm vibe thanks to green swirly carpets and the wooden tables and chairs with sea green padding. Families are by far the largest clientele, drawn by units with kitchens, a beachfront location, and an overall cheerful vibe.
Location
14-minute drive from the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and Promenade
Grande Shores Ocean Resort has a fantastic beachfront location. However, it’s away from the main action of Myrtle Beach. Expect a 14-minute drive to the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and Promenade and 12 minutes by car to Broadway at the Beach. There are two golf courses within a six-minute drive away. Tanger Outlets takes 10 minutes to reach by car. A selection of dining options can be found within a five-minute walk. The Myrtle Beach International Airport is a 21-minute drive from the property.
Rooms
Mix of contemporary and dated rooms with balconies, coffeemakers, and either mini-fridges or kitchens
Some of the rooms at Grande Shores Ocean Resort are contemporary and clean with warm brown bedding that pairs well with taupe walls and cream headboards. They’re complemented by beach photography on the walls to create a fresh style. These rooms are often those maintained by the property, and though they might show some wear in some places, they’re kept in decent shape. On the other hand, there are condos and units that are individually owned and often have dated decor like loudly patterned bedding and old-fashioned wooden furniture. Amenities in all rooms include air-conditioning and ceiling fans, flat-screen TVs, furnished balconies (with partial or full ocean views), mini-fridges, and coffeemakers. Wi-Fi is free. Many units like Efficiencies and Condos offer kitchens with microwaves, refrigerators, sinks, stoves, ovens, cookware, platter ware, and utensils. Bathrooms are simple and come with shower/tub combos, Blu toiletries, and hairdryers.
Features
Diverse amenities like water features, gym, American restaurant, and laundry room
The resort offers a solid list of services and amenities aimed at keeping families busy and happy during vacation. The beachfront location makes it easy to enjoy the ocean and sand. There are also 11 indoor and outdoor water features like pools (one on the seventh floor rooftop), hot tubs, lazy rivers, and children’s pools. A small, albeit dated, gym provides cardio and weight equipment. The American restaurant is great for refueling with a hot breakfast buffet (for a fee) or comfort food at dinner. There are a few freebies like Wi-Fi, parking, DVD rentals, and tickets to attractions in the area. Business guests can take advantage of meeting rooms and a business center. Some condos have washers and dryers, and there's a coin-operated laundry room for those who need it.
