Bottom Line

The mid-range Grenoble House is a charming
hotel that draws couples and families seeking a central location in the French Quarter and near Bourbon
Street. The hotel has a pool in an attractive outdoor courtyard, a gift shop in
the lobby, and a limited free breakfast. Its 17 large suites are homey and include separate
living rooms and full-size kitchens. But the furniture throughout is
somewhat dated, and guest should note that they must leave their keys with the front desk when
leaving the hotel. Travelers seeking a more style-conscious hotel in the same
area with additional amenities may want to consider the Dauphine
Orleans Hotel.

Scene

A charming historic hotel with a central attractive courtyard

Built in the 1800s, this charming hotel was named after the city of Grenoble, France.
The hotel's facade is maroon with yellow trim, while exterior walls facing the courtyards are powder blue with white trim. A lovely central courtyard has
wrought-iron tables and chairs, stone walkways, a pool, and a variety of potted
plants. The lobby has boldly colored emerald-green walls, dated flower-print couches and chairs, pale pink drapes, Oriental rugs, and antique wooden
furniture. The look recalls a grandmother's drawing room. Guests should note that there's no elevator in this three-floor building. Most guests are couples seen
congregating on the outdoor terrace, though with large studio apartment-style
rooms, it’s popular among families too.

Location

Located in the French Quarter and within walking distance of popular attractions

Grenoble House is located in the French Quarter and is
a two-minute walk to Bourbon Street. (Guests have noted that they do not hear
noise from the famously boisterous street, despite its proximity.) Jackson Square is
an 11-minute walk away, and the riverfront Woldenberg Park is only 10
minutes on foot. For families, the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas is a
14-minute walk. There are a variety of dining options on surrounding streets
and even more within a five-minute walk south. The closest street car stop is a
four-minute walk away. Louis
Armstrong New Orleans International Airport is about a half-hour drive away.

Rooms

Homey apartment-style suites with full-size kitchens, living rooms, and separate bedrooms

The suites at Grenoble House resemble apartments with their spacious separate living rooms and full-size kitchens. Suites range from one to two bedrooms and can have up
to three beds, or even four if the living room has a pullout couch. In
terms of decor, color schemes vary, but suites have a consistently homey
vibe. Many of them feature antique wooden furniture with four-poster or sleigh beds, though some of the items are a bit dated, like the framed '80s-style prints and artwork as well as overstuffed couches and chairs with floral prints. The kitchen has modern full-size appliances like stoves, refrigerators,
microwaves, toasters, and dishwashers. Silverware and dishes are provided, as is
free bottled water in the fridge. Bathrooms, painted in pastel colors, are not overly spacious, though
include shower/tub combos, free toiletries, and hairdryers. Some two-bedroom
suites have the option of two bathrooms.

Features

Swimming pool, free breakfast, and a gift shop

Grenoble House has an attractive outdoor terrace with
tables and chairs and a small swimming pool, though some guests have complained
about cleanliness issues with the pool. A free limited breakfast is provided
and includes fruit, juice, coffee, and pastries, but there's no bar or restaurant. Lemonade is available for free in the
lobby throughout the day. There’s a gift shop in the lobby that sells New
Orleans-themed items. On-site parking is not available, but the hotel suggests a
parking garage located a block away which has a fairly reasonable fee compared
to most garages in the area. Wi-Fi is free throughout
the hotel.
