Manor House Country Hotel

Scene

An authentic, upscale country manor house with modern comforts

The four-pearl Manor House Country Hotel is an authentic manor house dating back to the early 18th century. The hotel combines Old World charm with modern luxuries, and has been meticulously restored to provide a fresh atmosphere. The architecture has been preserved and highlighted, and furnishings and artwork throughout perfectly complement the period vibe. The hotel is surrounded by great lawns, parks, and woodlands. Inside, decor includes damask wallpaper, enormous carved fireplaces, elaborately patterned carpets, parquet floors, grandfather clocks, and heavy drapes. Kids, while welcome, might make parents nervous running around the expensive-looking salons, and there isn't much here that's child friendly beyond kids' menus in the restaurants.

The fitness center is the only part of the hotel that looks a little dated and less upscale, but all the necessary equipment is available, and the large indoor swimming pool is picturesque. Even the boardrooms look like something out of a Parliament building or a movie set. In these sophisticated surroundings, there are plenty of cozy places to relax, including the Cellar Bar which offers live music each weekend. For an exceedingly tranquil country break, this hotel is a great pick that draws couples in droves.

Location

On the shore of Lough Erne, a 10-minute drive from Enniskillen

The Manor House Country Hotel is conveniently located for both relaxing and exploring the Fermanagh Lakelands. Set down a quiet, scenic country road, on the shores of lower Lough Erne, the hotel has its own marina and feels peaceful, but is actually near major area highways and easily accessible by car. The hotel is a 10-minute drive from the center of the charming little town of Enniskillen, and just a few minutes from the local Enniskillen airport. Belfast is a one-hour and 50-minute drive, and Derry is a one-hour and 25-minute drive away. Belfast International Airport is two hours from the Manor House by car.

Rooms

Fresh and elegant rooms with lovely views and modern bathrooms

The elegant rooms are fresh and clean, and all have lake, garden, or fountain views (with lake views being the most prized). Each room category is individually designed and decorated in a modern take on manor life -- expect rich fabrics in light neutral tones, vintage-inspired wallpaper, plush wall-to-wall carpeting, and fine landscape photography on the walls. Dark wood veneer furniture looks handsome, and has modern silhouettes, while there are classical gestures in the shapes of armchairs. Premier Suites even have fireplaces. Bathrooms aren't huge, but have modern fixtures. Most have shower/tub combos, but some rooms have separate walk-in showers and whirlpool tubs (a few even have TVs for simultaneous soaking and zoning out). Amenities in all rooms include flat-screen TVs, laptop safes, minibars, and free toiletries, while some rooms have Media Hub set-ups which can stream music from laptops, tablets, and phones. Connecting rooms are available upon request and Wi-Fi is free.

Features

Michelin-star chef, live music on weekends, atmospheric bars, and traditional afternoon tea

The Manor House Country Hotel has a Michelin-star chef on staff and offers two restaurants. Belleek, an elegant dining room with a solarium and gorgeous lake views, serves a menu that sources fresh, local produce, some of which is even foraged by the chefs. The Cellar Door Bistro is a warmer, more relaxed restaurant with a vaulted ceiling and stucco walls; children’s menus are available. The Cellar Door Bar features a live band on weekends, and there are plasma TVs showing sports. The Watergate Bar looks lifted from a 19th century movie, with elaborate woodwork, a marble bar, and low, atmospheric lighting. The Manor House offers an afternoon tea service, but guests should book in advance to guarantee a table. Breakfast is avialable, but is only included with certain bookings.

The Leisure Centre is a full-service gym -- also open to local membership -- and has a full fitness suite with cardio machines and weight equipment (though the space is a bit dated). There is a large indoor pool with the feel of a bygone era. The Younique Beauty Salon offers health and beauty treatments, including massage and spa packages. The Manor House has a marina on the lake, where it docks the Lady of the Lake, a double-decker lake cruiser which offers boat tours and sunset dinner cruises, for a surcharge. Wi-Fi throughout is free.
