Bottom Line

The 36 small rooms at the boutique b montmartre (formerly Hotel Beauséjour Montmarte) are individually decorated with colorful art, pop-style design pieces, and fun accents like mirrored cabinets. The rooms are stylish, as are the grounds and common areas of the rest of the property, which is short on amenities but maintains a charming, intimate atmosphere with the help of a lush backyard garden and patio. Sacré Coeur and the Place de Clichy are both a short walk away; the more touristy parts of Paris (like the Louvre and the Place St Michel) are within a half hour via public transportation.

Scene

Boutique in a renovated 19th-century building

The hotel consists of two buildings: the front a renovated 19th-century, five-story structure, and the back a modern, wood-faced construction accented in black steel. In the main building, a marble-lined bar with tufted walls and lime-green velour chairs separates the lobby from the backyard patio garden of the hotel, which is filled with café tables and palm trees. It links to individual floors of the back building via an exterior walkway. The common areas, while snug, are tastefully decorated throughout with chrome artifacts, shag throw rugs, and plush armchairs. The overall atmosphere is charming and romantic, and b montmartre mostly attracts couples.

Location

On a small street a block from the Place de Clichy

Situated a 20-minute walk from its iconic namesake, the hotel is situated on a small street a block from the Place de Clichy, a bustling square with restaurants, shopping, and movie theaters. Guests may want to note that, in the evening, the area may empty out a bit. Charles de Gaulle airport is about an hour and a half away via public transportation and the private shuttle buses that depart from Montparnasse; the Gard du Nord and Gare de l'Est are both a 20-minute train ride away.

Rooms

Design-oriented rooms with Swedish design lamps, framed art, and an abundant use of mirrors

Chrome furniture, marble-tiled bathrooms, and wood floors give a luxury feel to the rooms here, which make the most of a small amount of space and feature modern fixtures like rain showerheads and LED bedside reading lights. Standard rooms are particularly tight. Drawings and photographs by local, as well as internationally, recognized artists line the walls. All rooms have air-conditioning, a hair dryer, a minibar, and the possibility of bathrobes and a rental computer or iPad upon request. Some rooms overlook the peaceful backyard patio.

Features

Backyard garden with patio, small lobby bar, and lounge

There are few amenities in the hotel, apart from the intimate lobby bar and the peaceful garden between the property’s two buildings. The latter is handsomely tiled in flagstone, contains traditional café tables and wicker chairs, and is replete with jasmine, bamboo, chestnut, and palm trees.
