Decor can be loud and won't appeal to traditionalists
Named for its location in the 7th Arrondissement and its proximity to Paris' most-famous landmark, the 32-room Hotel 7 Eiffel is a design-focused boutique property. While the decor is striking, the chic-and-sleek look sometimes gets a bit loud and might not appeal to travelers seeking a more traditional hotel. Rooms, decorated with lots of white and shades of gray, can be small, although some have balconies. Bathrooms, while stylish, can be tiny, and in City and Open Space Rooms they lack doors. The bar, restaurant, and rooftop
terrace are pleasant, but they aren't always open, and the continental breakfast comes with a fee. While Wi-Fi is free, guests complain that it's slow and difficult to use. Travelers should also check out the nearby Hotel Saint Dominique, which has larger bathrooms at comparable rates.
Scene
Trendy boutique property with a modern, design-conscious approach that mostly works
Just about
everything is design-led at the Hotel 7 Eiffel, which certainly earns its
boutique tag. The modern facade is basic, but the interior mixes
various design themes. Brown Chesterfield sofas sit on white-tile floors
alongside sleek metal-framed chairs; there are mirrored accent walls, an
attractive pixelated mosaic design on the white front desk, and striking globe lighting. The daring combinations work overall, but some parts can feel loud.
The bright-red walls in one corner are an example. And some things feel a bit disjointed, like the retro brown-leather
armchairs alongside modern, minimally
adorned bookshelves. Hallways also have less design success, combining brown
walls with ugly faux-cobblestone flooring. Elsewhere, the enclosed rooftop
terrace sports a chic, fun image that combines dark-wood wall paneling with
summery-looking metal outdoor furniture in bright shades, artificial grass flooring,
and plenty of other greenery.
Location
In a residential neighborhood, within walking distance of the metro and the Eiffel Tower
In the 7th
Arrondissement on the Seine’s Left Bank, the Hotel 7 Eiffel is situated on a
narrow street in a residential neighborhood that’s especially quiet at night.
There are cafes, bars, shops, restaurants and markets close by -- including on
the well-known Rue Cler market -- and metro lines 8 and 13, and the ER line C,
are within walking distance.- Two-minutewalk to Rue Cler market
Rooms
Small rooms with slick, design-focused decor, some with balconies and bathtubs
There's a lot to like about the Hotel 7 Eiffel's 32 design-focused, trendy rooms. City Rooms are stylish but
small; their comfortable beds have blue-gray headboards, and there’s matching deep-pile
carpeting. Large mirrors over the bed maximize space, and chic bedside tables in
wall recesses have built-in spotlights. Floor-to-ceiling windows sport
attractive neutral curtains. Rounded-edge Lucite desks are elegant, but with leather stools in lieu of chairs, they’re not great for working. And occasionally the decor feels loud or mismatched, such as the brown-striped wallpaper paired with the textured blue
wallpaper. Open Space Rooms
have a more neutral color scheme, and there are chic built-in bedside reading
lights, MP3 docks, and pleasant balconies with colorful furniture and
good views (though not much privacy). Spacious Premium Rooms have futuristic accent wall designs that extend to the ceilings; windows are large,
but the out-of-place crinkly white linen curtains let in plenty of light. In City and
Open Space Rooms, silky brown curtains are all that shield the bathrooms, which don't have doors. Bathrooms are sleek and attractive, if tiny in the less-expensive rooms; they have large black and off-white tiles, walk-in
rainfall and slim-line power showers, and modern white vanities with built-in
sinks. Bathrooms in Open Space and Premium Rooms have less attractive
white-gray floor and wall tiling; some Premium Rooms come with shower/tub combos
with power showerheads in slick bathrooms that feature dark-gray
tile walls with mosaic accent detailing. All have individual toiletries by
VRAI, plus separate toilet cubicles.Standard
amenities include individually controlled air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, free Wi-FI, phones,
safes, hairdryers, bathrobes, and slippers, plus coffee- and tea-making
facilities, and well-stocked minibars. Note that some double beds are
actually two single beds pushed together, which is common in Europe.
Features
Pleasant bar, restaurant, and rooftop terrace, and free Wi-Fi
This small hotel lacks some of the expected amenities for an upscale property -- there's no gym or business center -- but it manages to pack in some dining and drinking features in appealing common spaces. The bar, lounge, and restaurant are open only in the evenings, and
not every day, while the attractive garden-style rooftop terrace is smoker-friendly. A full continental breakfast, served in the breakfast room, on the terrace, or in guests' rooms, is available for a fee. There’s an Apple
computer and printer available in the lobby, and the hotel provides loaner
tablet devices. There’s free Wi-Fi throughout, but guests complain that it's slow and cumbersome to use. The hotel lacks its own meeting rooms, but can arrange
bookings at nearby venues. Laundry service is available. While there’s no
on-site parking, there are garages within walking distance.
