The 33-room Hotel Fabric fits perfectly in its Oberkampf surroundings; here, post-industrial chic meets artisan vintage -- with a hipster edge. The rooms of this boutique property are generally spacious with fun, funky interiors and the odd architectural reminder of the building's heritage (plus modern bathrooms with walk-in showers). An evening honesty bar is a cool touch and the spa is a bonus, though on the small side. Rates are a little high for the area, but trendy doesn't usually come cheap -- especially in Paris.
Scene
Former textile factory turned chic boutique
Housed in a converted textile factory, the boutique Hotel Fabric pays homage to its (and the area's) manufacturing past. The lobby sets the tone, mixing the neo-industrial chic of large metal windows, exposed air ducts, and bare brick with an eclectic blend of classic furniture, retro curios, and modern design pieces -- much of it sourced from local vintage stores and flea markets. Passing through the hotel, the ambience changes as moody, low-lit hallways evoke the ambience of the bygone Parisian world of cabarets and burlesque nightlife. Clientele tend towards the media professional and hipster couple, though the occasion well-heeled trendy family also makes an appearance.
Location
Situated in the trendy Oberkampf district in Paris' 11th arrondissement
The hotel is located on a quiet road in the 11th arrondissement's Oberkampf neighborhood, to the east of central Paris. Situated between Place de la Republique and Place de la Bastille, it was once the center of the city's metalworking industry, and is now a hip, artisan district boasting some of the city's coolest bars and party spots -- though parts may still feel a little sketchy. The property is very close to two major arteries so you can easily find a cab into town, while Saint Ambroise Metro is just a few minutes' walk away and connects to many of the capital's attractions.
Rooms
Stylish rooms with smart bathrooms and walk-in rain showers
Hotel Fabric's 33 rooms are mostly spacious (with a couple exceptions) and decked out in a melange of exposed brick, striped wallpaper, brightly patterned fabrics, and converted wooden crates. Many rooms also include the odd original cast-iron bracket or column from the building's atelier past. Free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, and flat-screen TVs with 70 channels come standard, while modern bathrooms include extra-large rainfall showerheads and L'Occitane toiletries.
Features
Buffet breakfast, free refreshments, and evening honor bar
There's no restaurant on-site, but a buffet breakfast is served downstairs every morning and in the evening guests can help themselves to drinks from the honesty bar. Breakfast is not included in the rate, but tea and coffee is free all day and room service is also available. There is a small, basement spa offering a range of treatments and massage, as well as a steam room, Payot products, and a gym with three cardio machines. Free Wi-Fi is accessible throughout the hotel and iPads are available on request.
