The Saint James & Albany Hotel-Spa is an upscale property with the kind of amenities you wouldn't expect to find in the heart of Paris. There's a charming
outdoor garden and wonderful spa complete with a 17th century relaxation room, lovely indoor pool, and a fitness center. Location is key here, and the Saint-Roch Church, Place Vendôme, and the Louvre are all just a five-minute walk away. The 200 modern rooms include minibars, flat-screen TVs, and comfortable beds, though noise can be an issue and they aren't the most stylish. Room service and the business center are available 24 hours a day, and on-site 202 Rivoli Restaurant and Bar serves French cuisine and drinks into the evening. Expect to pay extra for breakfast, use of the hot tub, and to bring pets. For rooms with a bit more style, try Le Maison Favart, a 15-minute walk from the Louvre.
Scene
An elegant, historical hotel with an exquisite outdoor garden area
Facing the Tuileries
Gardens, the exterior of this hotel is gorgeous. There's detailing on the
windows, lovely arches, and a traditionally grand French style that's clean and elegant. The polished, upscale
lobby has light marble floors and splendid ceiling medallions holding intricate chandeliers, with tan leather armchairs set throughout. Light wood floors contrast dark leather seats at the simple and modern 202 Rivoli Restaurant and
Bar, and there are gold-framed black-and-white photos on the walls. Deep Nature Spa has vaulted ceilings and stone arches in its 17th century
relaxation room, while treatment rooms have similar decor.
Outside, the charming patio and garden area is lined with gray brick, potted plants, and wood or green metal seating while attractively manicured ivy and shrubs sit at the center of the courtyard. The hotel is popular with everyone from families to business travelers and couples.
Location
Fantastic central location on rue de Rivoli
The Saint James &
Albany Hotel-Spa is on one of the most famous and convenient streets in Paris, the Rue de Rivoli. Saint-Roch
Church, Place Vendome, the Louvre, are around a
five-minute walk away, while the Tuileries Gardens are just across the road. Paris Olympia, the Paris Opera, Pont Royal, and
Place de la Concorde are 10 minutes away on foot, while the Musee d'Orsay and Opera
Garnier are a 15-minute walk from the hotel. Seemingly endless restaurants, shops, banks, and pharmacies are scattered throughout the neighborhood, though one downside to the location is lack of on-site parking. Guests needing access to the metro to reach farther flung destinations across the city, like Montmartre or Montparnasse, can find trains at Tuileries station, just across the street from the hotel. A car or taxi to Charles de Gaulle Airport or Orly Airport will take around 30 minutes depending on traffic, and both destinations can be accessed by public transport in around an hour.
Rooms
Contemporary and home-like with tile or granite bathrooms
Standard, Superior, Suites, and Family Rooms are available at this hotel, and all are large
with a simple, home-like feel. Neutral colors blanket the spaces, including earth-tone carpets and brown bed runners, tan striped curtains, and wood or black leather armchairs. Flat-screen
TVs sit on mid-tone wood furniture that's not the most contemporary we've seen, and minibars and safes are tucked inside.
Closets hold bathrobes and slippers, and there is air-conditioning throughout.
Beds are comfortable and some rooms have pleasant garden or city
views. Suites offer large, bright living spaces with couches and huge windows. Bathroom decors varies from
light tile to tan granite, and all are modern (though not exactly chic) with tile or granite
shower/tub combos and high-end Heeley toiletries. Some bathrooms have separate tubs and
walk-in granite showers while others have heated towel racks and makeup mirrors. The hotel is mostly quiet -- especially courtyard-facing rooms -- though some rooms suffer from loud street noise.
Features
Relaxing spa, gourmet restaurant, and free Wi-Fi
This hotel has loads of luxurious features that you won't usually find in Paris. The highlight here is Deep Nature Spa, which offers massages, facials,
children’s spa treatments, and body treatments in addition to a steam room and hot tub. A long indoor
pool in a dimly lit space with dark tile and wood bench seating is also available. The fitness center is in the spa area as well, with Technogym cardio machines, and fitness classes available by appointment. However, the spa's relaxation
area is only for guests who have booked treatments and the hot tub costs extra. Authentic
French cuisine is served at 202
Rivoli Restaurant and Bar, along with small plates, wine, coffee, and
cocktails. The bar offers live music on certain days of the week and the breakfast buffet is not included with room rates. Room service is available 24 hours a day. Concierge services and a business center are provided, and there is free Wi-Fi
throughout. This hotel is pet-friendly, but there is a daily fee for pets, and airport transfers can be arranged for a fee as well.
