Bottom Line

Housed in a 19th-century Haussmann-style building, the W Paris is chic, hip, and luxurious. It's in the conveniently close to many of the Right Bank's best-known attractions, including the Palais Garnier, home of the Paris Opera. The 91 rooms are modern but can be small, dark, and a bit quirky, with minimalist decor and open-plan bathrooms. Features include a 24-hour gym, an on-site nightclub, and a trendy restaurant. For a youthful vibe with a more authentic Parisian feel, consider the lovely and slightly cheaper Hotel De Nell nearby instead.

Scene

Hip, upscale hotel with modern interiors and forced-cool ambience

The W Paris doesn't have the hippest location for a hotel that affects such a trendy aesthetic, but the avant-garde decor and non-stop club music piped through the public areas are meant to assure guests that they are indeed at the epicenter of cool. This peace of mind comes with a price, however: the W is one of the most expensive hotels in the neighborhood, though not necessarily the most charming or best equipped. Decor is luxe but laid-back, with plenty of deep lounge sofas and dim lighting. Thousands of tiny LED lights adorn the black walls of the reception area, where the concierge desk sports a Whatever, Whenever sign (in reference to the brand's service philosophy; in theory, the concierge can hook guests up with any request, from airplane snacks to package shipping to more outlandish desires, such as a bathtub filled with chocolates). A lobby lounge/restaurant features a long, curved bar and tables with gray velour
banquettes topped with crimson throw pillows. Seating spills outside to a large dining terrace overlooking the street.

Location

In the 9th Arrondissement, across from Opera Garnier and close to shopping and nightlife

The W is situated on a lively street on Paris's Right Bank, with abundant boutiques, department stores -- including Galeries Lafayette and Printemps -- and cafes all within a short stroll. The historic Palais Garnier opera house is a five-minute walk from the hotel while Place Vendome takes 10 minutes on foot. The Chaussee d'Antin - La Fayette metro station is just a block away. The hot club and restaurant scene of the SoPi (South of Pigalle) neighborhood is within a 15-minute walk, and getting to the Louvre takes about the same amount of time on foot. The convenient Roissy bus to and from Charles De Gaulle Airport stops right around the corner from the hotel.

Rooms

Modern rooms with open bathrooms and minimalist decor

The W's 91 rooms and suites combine minimalist, modern decor with classic architectural details such as crown molding and large windows that actually open. Color palettes are neutral, with black-and-white bedspreads decorated in modern toile de Jouy and throw pillows adorned with famous Parisian faces. Amenities include flat-screen TVs and built-in charging stations. Of the rooms, 49 have views of the Opera Garnier, though these can get traffic noise. Open-plan bathrooms located near the front door come stocked with Bliss toiletries and have modern vanity sinks, walk-in rainfall showers, and separate toilets.

Features

Hip lounge with signature cocktails and in-room yoga

A pricey buffet
breakfast with hot and cold items is served daily in the full-service restaurant.
The hotel also has a 24/7 gym and provides guests with mats and videos for
in-room yoga, but there is no pool or spa. A
hip lounge offers signature cocktails and occasional live music sets along with more frequent DJ appearances. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel and on-site parking is available for an additional fee.
