The Village Resort and Spa is a quiet, villas-only resort hotel located in Karom, a bit away from the beach. With only 34 units in total, it feels a bit quieter than many of the town's larger resorts. The villas have tasteful decor and especially striking bathrooms outfitted with separate walk-in showers and skylit soaking tubs. All have private terraces that face the garden or the hotel's gorgeous lagoon-style pool, complete with a swim-up bar, jetted benches, and a waterfall feature that give it a natural look. The small spa has lovely treatments, and there's a restaurant serving Thai food, though breakfast is reportedly mediocre and it comes at an additional fee. Wi-Fi is available, but it's expensive -- parking, however, is free.
Scene
Small, romantic boutique resort with quiet ambience
With a quieter ambience than some of the area's larger chains, this boutique resort has garden-filled grounds and a gorgeous lagoon pool. It's no wonder park benches are placed around the property, so guests can linger looking at the towering palm trees, pool waterfalls, and footpaths. But the lobby is also quite lovely: a towering rotunda with golden-yellow columns, semi-open to the gardens beyond. Most guests here are vacationing couples looking for a quiet getaway, and while children are welcome, the quiet, calm atmosphere isn't conducive to a fun family vacation.
Location
Karom location, a short walk from the beach
The Village Resort and Spa Patong Beach is located in Karom, just slightly inland from the town's big beaches (accessible in under 10 minutes on foot). Patong Beach is a 15-minute drive from the hotel while Phuket Fantasea takes just over half an hour by car. The Phuket International Airport is just over an hour away by car.
Rooms
Elegant villas with garden or pool views and huge bathrooms with skylit tubs
Tastefully turned out, the resort's villas feature teak furniture, stenciled headboards, dark wood floors inlayed with marble, rice-paper-like blinds, and large window seats backed by rose-colored cushions. All villas have separate living rooms and bedrooms and private terraces. Amenities include flat-screen TVs with cable and DVD players, kettles, minibars, and king-size beds. Bathrooms are particularly striking, with rust-colored walls, colorful basin sinks, glass walk-in showers, and huge soaking tubs under frosted skylights. The only downside is the vanity area: The dim lighting and small wall-mounted hairdryers make them less than ideal for applying makeup or grooming. The Village offers two types of villa: Pool Villas and Tropical Villas, and the only major distinguishing factor between the two is whether they face the pool or the gardens.
Features
Gorgeous lagoon pool with fountains and swim-up bar, elegant restaurant, and lovely spa
The Village Resort's best feature is its magnificent freeform pool, at the center of the property, complete with a built-in bench area with massage jets, a swim-up bar, and a stepping-stone walkway that leads to a little island. There's also a waterfall feature and a wading area that resembles a sandy beach. One side of the pool has restaurant seating and lounge chairs. A row of Pool Villas sits on the opposite side, their terraces opening directly to the water. There's also a hot-spring-like whirlpool on an elevated level overlooking the main pool.Along with the pool bar, which serves snacks and cocktails, the hotel has a main restaurant, Tamnak Bhrachandra. A buffet breakfast is served here every morning, for a fee, but guests report it's underwhelming. Lunch and dinner get better reviews and are available a la carte. The semi-open space is elegant but not stuffy and has views of the lagoon-like pool from the dining room tables. Thai cooking classes are also available on request, as is room service. Although the cuisine on-site is primarily of the Thai variety, guests craving international options can pop over to the hotel's sister property, The Front Village, where continental options are available. The Village's Royal Spa is housed in an equally elegant space that mixes stone and wood wall paneling. The result is a natural look that reflects the lush green surroundings. Guests can choose from treatments including oil massages, scrubs, wraps, and even hot stone massage.Other amenities include free parking and laundry service (for a fee). Wi-Fi is only available in public areas and some villas, and is expensive (although it's free while eating in the restaurant).
