Scene

Modern conference hotel with meeting rooms and bright, open lobby bar

The hotel is modern and minimalist -- a rounded, sand-colored stone building with geometric windows and a large parking lot. Neon orange-tinted windows lead into the modern lobby and spacious adjoining bar area, where minimalist white furnishings and red and orange pillows complete the trendy yet inviting scene. The hotel hosts conventions, weddings, and other business events, and there are four conference rooms on the property -- the biggest seating up to 400 people. There is also a business center and a foyer, which looks out into a garden with waterfalls.

Location

Ten-minute drive South of Lecce, within an hour of beaches and historic towns

Set on a two-lane road, not far from where Via Puglia SS16 intersects Variante di Lecce, the hotel is conveniently located for exploring Lecce -- a university town with upscale and antique shopping, an incredible Baroque piazza, and much dining and nightlife. There are also beaches and historic towns within an hour's drive of the hotel. The mostly residential town of Cavallino, which has Roman architecture, is three minutes away. San Cataldo Beach is reached in less than 10 minutes, and Porto Cesareo's turquoise waters are about 45 minutes away. Gallipolli, a picturesque, walled town on the Ionian Sea, is a 35-minute drive from the hotel.

Rooms

Spacious rooms with parquet wood floors and modern furniture

Guest rooms at the Leone di Messapia are big and modern, with parquet wood floors, minimal décor, and sleek, white furniture. All rooms have mini-fridges, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. Suites have planters with live plants, and bathroom kits with extras like toothpaste and toothbrushes and a shaving kit. Executive Lofts have whirlpool tubs and a welcome gift including wine and cookies upon arrival.

Features

Airy lobby bar and restaurant serving wood-fired Neapolitan pizza

The hotel serves a continental breakfast buffet -- with pastries, fresh fruit, and charcuterie -- for a fee, and the on-site restaurant serves regional dishes and thin-crust Neapolitan pizza made in a wood-burning stove. The lobby bar is bright and spacious with sleek furniture, and a rooftop garden offers a scenic spot for holding receptions. Free parking is available in the huge parking lot, and a shuttle to the beach is available for a fee. A swimming pool is under construction.
