Complaints of being switched to another property
The Hotel Rinascimento is a solid boutique option whose best feature is its fantastic location on a cobblestone side street near Piazza Navona. The hotel’s tiny lobby is bright and attractive with art in warm reds and oranges. Rooms and bathrooms are stylish and pleasant; some rooms have large patios with pleasant seating areas. A big breakfast spread is included in the daily rate, and Wi-Fi is free. However, the elevator is tiny and doesn’t reach the top floor, and guests complain of being told the hotel is overbooked and being moved to a less desirable property. In the same price category and an equally great location in the trendy Jewish Ghetto, the Monte Cenci Hotel has small rooms but a lovely rooftop terrace and much higher guest satisfaction.
Scene
Quintessential Rome on the outside; tiny office-like reception and stylish lobby on the inside
From the outside, the Hotel Rinascimento is quintessential Rome: an attractive wood-frame glass door set into ancient-looking brick on a cobblestone side street. (Look up to see charming wooden shutters, rounded at the top.) The front door opens directly onto the street. Inside, the tiny reception area has a desk and two chairs and is unfortunately office-like, with document holders for decoration. A second lobby room is stylish and attractive and far more relaxing, with paintings in bright warm colors, white leather seats, large potted plants, and a flat-screen TV. A computer station for guest use isn't exactly a business center, but it's adequate given that almost all of the hotel's guests are leisure travelers.
Location
Between Piazza Navona and the Vatican, an excellent location for exploring on foot
Hotel Rinascimento is within walking distance of many big-ticket sights, yet tucked away on a quiet side street for undisturbed nights. An eight-minute walk from lively Piazza Navona, the hotel is surrounded by restaurants, bars, and cafes that locals frequent. For those looking to explore on foot, the location is ideal. A handy bus stop is just a minute’s walk away, but the hotel is not within close proximity to any metro stop or the train station. - 11-minute walk to the Opera House
Rooms
Attractive contemporary rooms -- some rather small with patios -- and smart modern bathrooms
Rooms at the Hotel Rinascimento are contemporary and stylish, in white with muted brown and slate accents and modern paintings on the walls. Most standard rooms are about 320 square feet, with beige carpet and small dark-wood desks. Technology in all rooms includes flat-screen TVs, small programmable safes, and free Wi-Fi, and the AC is strong. Minibars stock a selection of hard and soft drinks but no snacks. While most rooms are spacious enough, some are downright small, particularly those with lovely small brick patios. Some guests will be happy to trade a smaller room for outdoor space, but note that there’s no view, just pleasant potted plants and a tile table and chairs. Bathrooms are modern and attractive, with slate-colored tile and fun design elements like vessel sinks and cool blocky chrome fixtures. Some have separate vestibules for the toilet and bidet, and some have those elements in the same room as the narrow standing showers with rainfall showerheads. Though bathrooms are attractive, a few are so tight the door barely clears the toilet. They come with hairdryers, toiletries, and magnifying mirrors.
Features
Good breakfast, public computer station, free Wi-Fi, plus laundry and room service
Amenities and services aren’t the strong suits of the Hotel Rinascimento, but one highlight is the hotel’s breakfast buffet, included in the rate. It covers cold meats and cheeses, eggs, fresh and dried fruits, cereal, yogurt, bruschetta, pastries, rolls, jam, and weak drip coffee (ask for a cappuccino). On the downside, breakfast is served in a room that’s attractive but so small diners might have to stand up to let others reach the buffet. A computer station in the lobby is available for guest use, and Wi-Fi is free throughout. The hotel offers concierge services, and for a fee will arrange airport transfers and laundry service. The front desk is staffed 24 hours, and room service is available from breakfast through dinner.
