Scene

Gadgets and gimmicks for leisure travelers who are sightseeing in central Rome

The typical Roman façade of the palazzo that houses iRoom Pantheon & Navona disguises the decidedly different approach that the hotel has taken. While communal spaces are limited, the fully-loaded bedrooms have enough distractions to satisfy travelers obsessed with the latest gadgets. Everything from air-conditioning to mood lighting is controlled by iPad, which may intimidate traditional hotel aficionados. The ultra-modern atmosphere and somewhat gimmicky vibe appeals to couples and other leisure travelers looking for a hotel with a twist in the center of Rome.

Location

Walking distance to the Spanish Steps, Colosseum, Pantheon, and Trevi Fountain

Located on a small square between Piazza Venezia and Largo Argentina, iRooms Pantheon & Piazza Navona is ideal for visiting many of Rome's most famous sites. The Spanish Steps, Colosseum, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, and Roman Forum are all within a 15-minute walk or less. The nearest metro stop is at the Colosseum, but the hotel is set between multiple tram and bus stops which makes it convenient for using public transportation. A taxi stand is also nearby, and Rome Fiumicino Airport is about a 35-minute drive away.

Rooms

Individual themes, with a variety of features, including hot tubs and movie walls

The guest rooms at iRooms Pantheon & Navona have a range of themes, such as iMovie (cinema wall) and iZen (in-room grotto spa shower), and include an array of related features. All units have multiple high-tech touches, such as iPads with free Wi-Fi that can be used for everything from Skyping the front desk to changing array the chromotherapy lights in bathrooms. There's also air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and free minibars stocked with water, soda, and snacks. Bathrooms are all stylish, and some take their theme more to the extreme than others. All are equipped with bidets, hairdryers, and a generous stock of toiletries. There are either walk-in rainfall showers, shower/tub combos, or whirlpool tubs, but many are located in the main room area rather than in the bathroom, which may be an issue for guest who aren't traveling in a couple.

Features

High-tech gadgets, free breakfast, and small courtyard terrace, plus free Wi-Fi

Most of the techie features are found in the guest rooms, as the property has limited common space. The hotel provides a handheld wireless device that can be taken out and used around Rome. Preloaded with a guide, as well as maps, the device can also make unlimited phone calls within Italy. While there's no restaurant on-site, the hotel does offer a free continental breakfast served in guest rooms at a pre-selected time, or available in a small kitchen area. Guests also have full use of a small outdoor terrace with colorful chairs that overlooks a typical Roman courtyard. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout.
