Bottom Line

Exceptionally well-located in the heart of historical Rome, just a six-minute walk from the Colosseum, the aptly named Mercure Rome Colosseum Centre is an upper-middle-range hotel with minimalistic, modern decor. The rooftop pool and bar offer exceptional views of the Colosseum, though the space is seasonal. The hotel also features a lobby bar and a breakfast room. Unfortunately, breakfast and parking cost an extra fee, and the hotel has no fitness facilities. The property's 161 rooms are compact and well-equipped with free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, minibars, and tea/coffee service; some have excellent views of the Colosseum. The nearby Capo d'Africa Hotel is a similar-range property that has a fitness center, free breakfast, and rooftop terrace, but no pool.

Mercure Rome Colosseum Centre

Scene

Modern, minimalistic decor and chic lobby

The Mercure Rome Colosseum Centre is situated in a modern building with a flat, white facade that features interesting accents like long windows that jut out, circular porthole windows, and exterior spiraling stairs painted in chic black. The lobby is minimalistic and modern, with a white-and-beige color palette; marble tiled floors; and large, armless couches in lime green, purple, and gray. The lobby bar is chic with purple accent lighting, wooden floors, large red planters, and stylish white cafe tables. The rooftop pool and bar are the real standout, as the space provides excellent views of Rome and the Colosseum, though it's only available from the end of May through September. Exceptionally well-located in central Rome, this hotel is a hotspot for sightseers and tourists, and it attracts its share of business guests, too.

Exceptional location in central Rome, a six-minute walk from the Colosseum

The hotel is exceptionally well-located on a main road in central Rome that's in walking distance to public transport, restaurants, shops, and sights. The seasonal outdoor terrace and pool feature stunning views of the Colosseum, which itself is just a six-minute walk from the hotel. The Colosseo Station and the Manzoni Station are each about an eight-minute walk from the hotel. Guests can walk to the Piazza Venezia and Palatine Hill in about 15 minutes and the Roman Forum in about 20 minutes. The Vatican is about a half an hour away via public transportation. Leonardo Da Vinci Airport is a 30-minute drive from the hotel, without traffic. Private, underground parking is available, but it costs an extra fee.

Rooms

Tasteful, well-kept rooms with minibars and coffee/tea service -- some with excellent Colosseum views

Rooms at Mercure Rome are compact with well-kept, contemporary decor that's somewhat generic, but tasteful in neutral shades of brown, beige, and cream. The Superior Double (the smallest double), for example, features patterned brown wall-to-wall carpeting, white bedding with brown accents, a zoomed-in photograph of the Colosseum hanging over the bed, and individual reading lights. A wall opposite the bed features a small desk, wall-mounted flat-screen TV, a wardrobe, a stocked minibar, and free coffee/tea service. The bathroom is similarly compact with a vessel sink, wet-room shower, toilet, and bidet. Rooms are air conditioned and include free toiletries, safes, and hairdryers in addition to free Wi-Fi. Guests especially recommend higher level rooms with Colosseum views. While rooms are fairly well soundproofed, guests have occasionally complained about noise from adjacent rooms, the rooftop bar, or the busy street outside. The hotel has only two elevators, creating congestion at times.
