Bottom Line

Kimpton Hotel Monaco Salt Lake City is a four-pearl hotel located in downtown Salt Lake City. Within a 10-minute walk, guests can reach popular attractions like the convention center, museums, and Temple Square. The 225 rooms are a little on the small side and come with amenities like yoga mats, flat-screen TVs, and minibars. Wi-Fi is only free for Kimpton rewards members (free to join) and coffeemakers are not available in rooms. There’s a 24-hour gym, three meeting rooms, stylish restaurant and bar, bikes to borrow, and in-room spa service. The brand is known for unexpected extras like gold fish to borrow and hula hoops for kids. The lack of a pool is a bit of a drawback. DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel Salt Lake City is a good alternative for an indoor pool, hot tub, free parking, and a free airport shuttle.

Scene

Trendy hotel with a vintage atmosphere, dazzling decor, and a clientele of couples and business travelers

Kimpton Hotel Monaco Salt Lake City sits in a historic bank building, an aspect that gives this property a vintage atmosphere. Like most Kimptons, the lobby has a fashion-forward design filled with dizzying patterned carpet in blues, yellows, and reds, sophisticated leather chairs and couches, yellow walls with white trim, and trendy decorative elements like silver wall and ceiling pieces. The lobby can get a bit busy in the mornings and evenings when the hotel offers free coffee and wine to their guests, some of whom bring their pets along for the ride. The restaurant is less colorful with a neutral color scheme. However, it still has trendy patterns and stylish silver wall accents. Overall, there’s an elegant vibe to the place which attracts couples and business travelers. However, great family perks like welcome gifts, goldfish in rooms, hula hoops for kids, and babysitting services, attract a good number of families, too.

Location

Centrally located in downtown Salt Lake City, near convention center and main attractions

This property is perfect for visitors who want to be in downtown Salt Lake City close to the main action. The Salt Palace Convention Center is a five-minute walk away, as is the City Creek Shopping Center. The Utah Museum of Contemporary Art is six minutes away on foot. It’s a 10-minute walk to Temple Square, while the Utah State Capitol takes 20 minutes of walking to reach. As far as the surrounding streets, there are plenty of dining options, a bus stop, and a trolley stop just two minutes away. It’s a 15-minute drive to the Salt Lake City International Airport.

Rooms

Chic rooms with flat-screen TVs, minibars, and yoga mats

Rooms at this Kimpton property are clean and stylish with an upbeat design that include colorful patterned carpet and curtains, blue statement walls, white bedding with trendy white plush headboards, and antique-style wooden furniture. Though rooms appear spacious, they may feel a bit small for some. Standard amenities include flat-screen TVs, desks, yoga mats, minibars, and Wi-Fi (free for Kimpton Karma Rewards members). There are items like robes, snacks, animal toys, and toothbrushes placed in the rooms that are for sale, which can a bit of a turn off for some. The cream and tan bathrooms have shower/tub combos, Atelier Bloem toiletries, and hairdryers. Suites offer separate showers and tubs, more space, and memory foam mattresses.

Features

Free perks like bikes, wine and coffee hours, and pets

Kimpton Hotel Monaco Salt Lake City has a decent number of amenities, though some guests wish for a pool. There is, however, a modest gym with cardio equipment and free weights, plus free PUBLIC loaner bikes for an alternative workout. In-room massages and facials are available and a free wine reception is held every evening. In the mornings, there’s a free coffee reception in the lobby and a hot and cold breakfast available, though it costs a fee. Bambara, the sophisticated restaurant, serves New American cuisine for brunch, lunch, and dinner. The Vault is a trendy bar with dazzling cocktails made to order. Room service is available 24/7 with a limited overnight menu. Business amenities include three fully-equipped meeting rooms and a 24-hour business center. Wi-Fi is only free for Kimpton Karma Members and costs a fee for all others, though it’s free to sign up and get the free Wi-Fi perk. Valet parking costs a fee. Pets are welcome for free, with no size or type limits.
