Bottom Line

The 43-room Hibiscus Suites - Sarasota/Siesta Key is a mid-range property that’s a five-minute drive from the beach. The hotel has a lovely heated outdoor pool with a spacious sun deck dotted with lounge chairs and palm trees, as well as barbecue grills. Free breakfast is served in a cozy dining room, and other conveniences include laundry machines and a computer corner. Pleasant suites have flat-screen TVs in bedrooms and living rooms, as well as kitchens, while Studio Suites offer mini-fridges and microwaves, though some of the decor and furnishings are dated. Travelers seeking something within walking distance of the beach might want to consider the (pricier) Captiva Beach Resort instead.

Scene

Affordable, mid-range motor inn

The two-story, peach-painted Hibiscus Suites Inn is a well-maintained motor lodge with pink shutters framing windows, a Spanish-tiled roof, and palm trees dotting the grounds. Outdoor hallways face uncovered parking lots. True to its name, the motel has blooming hibiscuses throughout the property and bright paintings of the flowers in the small and simple lobby, plus homey comforts that enforce its motto of “your home away from home,” such as free coffee. A few palm trees and the red hibiscuses provide some tropical ambience at the outdoor pool that’s in the parking lot, and there's a lovely fountain skirted in colorful flowers.

Location

Located beside the Siesta Key bridge, a five-minute drive to the beach

Sitting on Stickney Point Road, the Hibiscus Suites Inn is across the street from a motel and residential property, and within walking distance of a strip mall with shops, restaurants, a market. More dining options and shopping are on Gulf Gate Drive, two minutes away by car. Siesta Beach and Crescent Beach are a five-minute drive across the bridge. Snorkeling at the Point of Rocks takes 10 minutes by car. For a livelier scene, the Beach Club Siesta Key is a 15-minute drive. The Sarasota Opera House in downtown can be reached in 20 minutes, while the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport is a 30-minute drive.

Rooms

Pleasant suites have full kitchens and living rooms; Studio Suites have mini-fridges and microwaves

Suites have a homey feeling thanks to dark earth tones, rattan ceiling fans, and wooden furniture, though some elements look a bit hodgepodge and dated. One- and Two-Bedroom Suites all have living rooms with sofa beds and flat-screen TVs, as well as kitchens with microwaves, coffeemakers, oven/stoves, toasters, and refrigerators, while Studio Suites have mini-fridges and microwaves. One-Bedroom Suites come with either one king or two queens, and Two-Bedroom Suites come with one king and two queens. All rooms also have air-conditioning, wall safes, flat-screen TVs, irons/ironing boards, and free Wi-Fi. Outdoor hallways sometimes offer patio chairs. White-tiled bathrooms are standard with shower/tub combos and shell-shaped basins, as well as a small range of toiletries, plus hairdryers can be requested at the front desk.
