The Holiday Inn Express Savannah Historic District exceeds expectations for a value hotel and offers more Southern charm and historic character than most Holiday Inn Express properties. The hotel is located within walking distance to some of the most popular cafes and shops in the historic district. Crowning the seven-story brick building, the rooftop pool deck has panoramic views of the Savannah River and Hutchinson Island. A cozy, fireside bar near the lobby is a gathering place for both locals and hotel guests.
Scene
More character than the average Holiday Inn Express
Located in a historic red brick building, The Holiday Inn Express Savannah Historic District towers seven floors and has 143 rooms. Vintage gas lanterns hang on the facade of the hotel, which sits on a brick street lined with big, old oak trees draped in moss. Rooms on the higher floors offer views of either the city squares or the Savannah River.
Location
Walking distance to eclectic cafes and shops in Savannah's historic district
Located in the center of Savannah's historic district on Bay Street, the Holiday Inn Express is nestled amongst the city's eclectic restaurants, shops, galleries, and boutiques. A trolley stop, offering tours of the city, is directly across the street. There are many restaurants and cafes located within walking distance. The popular Lady and Son's, a Southern-style eatery is located about six blocks away, and Leopold's ice cream parlor is just two blocks from the hotel. Historic Reynolds Square is across the street, while other parks and tourist attractions such as Forsyth Park, Lucas Theatre, and the Savannah Center for Fine Art are nearby.
Rooms
Rooms with the best views face the Savannah River.
Rooms offer everything you would expect from a Holiday Inn Express, but some have a few extras -- namely panoramic views of the river. The best rooms, corner suites facing the river, are located on floors five and up. The decor is bright and simple, but modern. Rooms come with either two queen beds or one king bed, and all have triple-sheeted bedding and pillows, labeled either soft or firm. Bathrooms have updated marble tile floors, spacious showers, and plenty of counter space. Each room has a mini-fridge, microwave, flat-screen TV, coffeemaker, and free Wi-Fi access, which some guests say can be spotty (depending on the location of the room).
Features
Fireside bar, free breakfast, rooftop pool, and observation deck
The rooftop observation deck features incredible views of the Savannah River and Hutchinson Island. The rooftop terrace has a pool and whirlpool, plus a cozy, outdoor living area with comfy furniture under a covered gazebo. Located by the lobby, and a favorite for both locals and guests, the Port Royal Tavern serves wine, beer, and cocktails. Flanked by a circle of chairs, there’s an exposed brick fireplace in the corner of the tavern. A daily free breakfast includes the hotel's signature cinnamon rolls, plus other hot and cold items. Valet parking is available for a fee, or parking is available in a public garage next door for slightly less.
