The Green Park Hotel

This family-run hotel is housed in a lovely 19th-century country home situated on the shores of Loch Faskally, with three acres of gardens and grassy lawns surrounding the two-story white building. The scenic location affords beautiful views of the water and wooded hills that guests can take in from various benches scattered throughout the property. Traditional interiors are strewn with floral carpets paving the way through various common rooms filled with antique-style pieces and a large assortment of artwork, all courtesy of Scottish artists. The decor might not suit all tastes, as some might find the dizzying floral carpets and plush curtains a bit fusty, but the spaces are elegant and inviting, with lots of fireplaces imbuing rooms with coziness. There are plenty of comfortable armchairs to settle into, and guests can linger over books from the hotel’s vast collection of more than 3,000, either in the lovely main lounge, where a beautiful honeycomb ceiling complements a pastel color palette, or in the sun lounge with gorgeous panoramic views of the gardens and lake. The property attracts a mature clientele, and so might not be ideal for those traveling with young children.

The hotel is located on the western edge of the small Victorian town of Pitlochry, situated on the shores of Loch Faskally and surrounded by three acres of lovely green grounds. A good base for exploring Perthshire and the Highlands, the hotel attracts travelers seeking a dose of the outdoors and scenic surroundings, as there’s lots of hiking and walking trails in the area as well as a variety of activities such as golfing and fishing. The town center is a 10-minute walk from the hotel, and there guests will find several restaurants, bars, and shops, as well as the train and bus station. The Pitlochry Golf Course is a five-minute drive away. Some sights worth visiting include the beautiful Blair Castle (11-minute drive), the nearby whiskey distilleries, such as the Edradour Distillery (nine-minute drive) or the Blair Atholl Distillery (five-minute drive), as well as the Scottish Crannog Center (40-minute drive).

Rooms at the Green Park Hotel are spacious, bright, and homey, with pleasing decor (which some might find a bit dated) that varies from room to room, and stunning views over the lake and gardens. Many rooms have floral patterned bedspreads that match the curtains, as well as colorful accent walls adorned with various paintings. Wooden furniture includes work desks, wardrobes, nightstands; most rooms have a lovely seating area in front of large windows. Binoculars in every room are a thoughtful touch for those who like to observe nature. Some rooms have private balconies with gorgeous views. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and tea- and coffee-making facilities with a selection of free teas, coffee, and cookies, plus bottled water. Beige-and-brown tiled bathrooms have shower/tub combos (some with additional walk-in showers) and toiletries.

Fresh local produce is the basis of the traditional Scottish and French dishes served at the on-site restaurant for breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is included in the room rate (some rates also include dinner) and consists of a buffet of various pastries, breads, fruits, and yogurts, as well as hot main courses. A light lunch is also available and served in the sun lounge. There is also free tea and coffee in the lounge during the day, as well as cake (including gluten free selections) in the afternoon.

The hotel is surrounded by three acres of grounds with lovely green lawns and gardens, as well as a small nine-hole golf course. There are a variety of activities on offer, including painting, photography, and dance classes. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, and there's also free parking.
