Bottom Line

The Ramada is a large upscale hotel that's part of a newish building complex completed in 2013. Its 384 rooms are comfortable and attractive, with modern decor, but they are small by Singapore standards. In-room amenities include large flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, electric kettles, and fridges -- but no minibars. There's an on-site restaurant and bar, an outdoor lap pool, and a 24-hour fitness center. Breakfast is not free, but parking and Wi-Fi are. The hotel is outside downtown Singapore and not within easy walking distance of a subway station, but there's a free shuttle bus service. Rates here are competitive but travelers looking be in the city center can also try PARKROYAL on Kitchener Road.

Ramada by Wyndham Singapore at Zhongshan Park

Scene

High-rise chain hotel catering to business travelers

This multi-story, glass-fronted hotel is part of the Zhongshan Park development, a mixed-use complex of buildings completed in 2013 which is made up of a park, a shopping mall, an office tower, and another hotel. The complex sits on a site that used to be a large sugar plantation. Zhongshan Park is located just around the corner and many guest rooms have pleasant views overlooking the greenery of the park grounds. The hotel's lobby area has a business-like look to it, with shiny marble floors and a stark black reception counter, but it lacks the impressive welcome guests would expect of an upscale hotel. The space is light-filled thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows. The hotel bar is located in one corner of the lobby, while the other has a simple seating area made up of a few tables, sofas, and armchairs. This property caters primarily to business travelers, but also gets a few leisure travelers among its guests.
