Although the small and quiet Aonang Phu Petra Resort sits a mere five minutes' from the main road through Ao Nang town, it feels worlds away. Surrounded by limestone karst mountains and plenty of greenery, this quiet, four-pearl spot is a welcome retreat from the noisy Ao Nang scene. 25 bungalows are spacious and have pleasant terraces to sit on, but mosquitoes can be an issue. Rooms set around the central swimming pool feel less private than those on the hillside. Free breakfast and Wi-Fi are nice perks.
Scene
Mellow and laid-back tourist resort without a party vibe
The Aonang Phu Petra Resort has a mellow, laid-back ambience and is popular with couples and families alike. The lobby is spacious and modern, with high ceilings supported by round wood pillars and little decorative touches such as potted plants and blue-and-white Chinese-style vases. There are also a couple of computers for guest use. However, outside is arguably the prettiest part of the resort and the grounds feature lots of lush greenery, the occasional nature-craft chair, and tropical plants such as frangipani labeled with their English and Thai names.
Location
Quiet green spot surrounded by mountains ,yet just a five-minute drive from town
The resort sits just off the main drag running through Ao Nang Beach, about a five-minute drive down a quiet road to the main road. Despite being so close to town it feels very rural here, and the resort is surrounded by limestone mountains and plenty of jungle greenery. It's a bit too far to walk to town, making it slightly inconvenient, but the resort alleviates this by providing a free hourly shuttle. The Krabi Airport is a half-hour drive away.
Rooms
Spacious rooms, beautiful bathrooms with big tubs, and pleasant outdoor terraces, but abundant mosquitoes
The Phu Petra features several categories of spacious bungalows that sit either by the pool or on a hillside. All rooms have abundant open floor plans and are much bigger than the rooms found in most resorts in the area. Decor is a mix of wood floors and furniture and colorful pastel colored walls. Flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and stocked minibars are standard. Roomy bathrooms feature large bathtubs and separate walk-in showers. All come with pleasant outdoor terraces, although mosquitoes can be an issue.
Features
Central swimming pool, kids' play area, and one small restaurant
As the Phu Petra is a small resort, features are limited. The hotel's centerpiece is its rectangular pool, which sits on a large wooden deck flanked with tropical trees and beautiful jungle views. There is just one restaurant and bar here, which has an outdoor deck and an air-conditioned interior. Breakfast buffet is included in the room rates. The resort also has a small kids' play area for those traveling with children. There isn't a fitness center or full spa, but there's a spot for Thai massages. Wi-Fi is free throughout the resort.
