The Sarann is a small boutique resort located at the end of Chaweng Noi Beach, a five-minute drive from main Chaweng Beach and about 15 minutes from the airport. The resort is not on the beach but the bay, and the water here is rocky and coral-filled, but some nice sand is just a quick stroll away, and the resort makes up for it by having a lovely infinity pool and great views of the bay. Rooms here are all very big, with wooden floors and desks, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, hot water kettles, and free Wi-Fi; some come with pools, terraces with hot tubs, or balconies depending on the type. The resort is small, but does have a tiny fitness center, spa, fusion restaurant which overlooks the sea. It's an out-of-town escape that is priced cheaper than some of the not-as-nice Chaweng Beach choices, although the location isn't great in terms of dining and shopping options.
Scene
This tranquil resort is popular with families and couples looking to escape the Chaweng party scene. Most guests can be found at the infinity pool.
The Sarann is a small and pretty tranquil resort; there isn't too much of anything going on here. As the resort isn't in party town Chaweng and doesn't have much of a beach -- guests must walk five to 10 minutes for that -- many folks go out for the day. Those who stay in hang out at the lovely infinity-edge pool, or else at the fusion-focused Wild Ginger Restaurant, which has nice bay views. In the evening, many guests head out to Chaweng to eat and drink. It's mostly couples and families here, looking for a quiet escape from the usual Samui packed bars and beaches.
Location
Located five minutes outside of Chaweng just above Chaweng Noi Beach; lots of traffic on the beach road and not many dining options in the immediate vicinity
The Sarann sits at the bottom of the hill coming down from the viewpoint between Chaweng and Lamai. The property is at the southern end of Chaweng Noi Beach, a quieter bay area compared to central Chaweng. It's a five-minute drive into town from here, and 15 to 20 minutes to the airport. While the sea and beach views are fabulous, the property itself is not on the beach but on the bay, where the water at this end is rocky and full of coral, so unsuitable for swimming. However, it's only a short stroll down to decent sand, although there won't be any resort sun loungers or amenities, as it's off the property. There are not too many options for eating and drinking along this section of road; guests need to go back into Chaweng for this, but the resort runs a free shuttle to and from town several times a day. One other drawback is that the main road outside is very busy, full of traffic all day, although it is quiet at the restaurant and pool inside the resort, as well as in the lower Jacuzzi Villas and Sea Front Pool Villas.
Rooms
Extremely spacious rooms have fine wooden floors and desks, and open-plan bathrooms with rain showers and elegant separate bathtubs. Lower category rooms have traffic noise.
The rooms here are all extremely spacious with fine wooden decor throughout, from the floors to the immense writing desks. The Deluxe rooms are the entry-level option here, and they feature two single beds, large balconies, and big open-plan bathrooms, with rain showers and separate elegant bathtubs. There is even an extra room in the spacious quarters, where extra beds for kids and larger groups can be added. One big drawback to these rooms is that they are back against the road, and thus get lots of traffic noise, as do the adjacent Jacuzzi Suites. The Jacuzzi Villas and Sea Front Pool Villas are far better options, as they don't get the noise, and are even more spacious and have poster beds. The Pool Villas have their own private swimming pools on the balconies, and the Jacuzzi Villas having outdoor hot tubs. All rooms come with flat-screen TVs, DVD players, mini-fridges, electric hot water kettles, hair dryers, safes, beach baskets, and umbrellas, and all rooms have free Wi-Fi. Unfortunately, only the Pool Villas have any kind of sea views.
Features
Infinity-edge pool with great bay views, plus Wild Ginger restaurant serving fusion cuisine
For a small resort, the Sarann does have enough features to keep guests happy. There is a lovely infinity-edge pool that overlooks Chaweng Noi Bay and beach, and the resort has put sun loungers out along the grassy terrace below to make up for the lack of beach or sand directly below the hotel. There is also a small fitness center and spa on the premises, and Wild Ginger restaurant serves up buffet breakfasts along with stylish fusion cuisine for lunch and dinner.
