Bottom Line

The two-and-a-half pearl Lift House Lodge is a simple hotel that attracts mostly couples and families with its self-sufficient studio-style units, conveniently located in Vail Village. The Lift House Lodge overlooks Vail's ski runs and pedestrian mall. The 45 rooms lack air-conditioning, but they have flat-screen TVs, kitchenettes, fireplaces, and balconies. The services and amenities are a bit limited here, as there are no breakfast or swimming pool. However, guests can enjoy an indoor 12-person hot tub, free Wi-Fi, and a laundry facility on-site. There are two restaurants located in the same building, though not directly in the hotel, which is a perk for visitors who don’t want to cook in their room. Destination Resorts Vail is a good alternative, with extra features like a year-round pool, hot tub, multi-bedroom apartments, and a steakhouse.

Lift House Lodge

Scene

Simple hotel with some dated spaces and a diverse clientele

Lift House Lodge opened in 1973, and it very much reflects the mountain ski lodge style found throughout Colorado. The hotel is housed in a white building with stone accents and balconies. Inside, things are a bit dated. The lobby has printed brown carpet and a small sitting area with weathered leather couches and a flat-screen TV. Travelers won’t find many public spaces beyond the lobby or the basement, which houses the hot tub. The overall ambience is peaceful and relaxed, while the style is more fitting for those on a budget trip (mostly families, couples, and friends on ski trips) who don’t need a lot of extras on their vacation. Note that prices are much higher during the ski season than they are in the summer.

Rooms

Homey apartment-style units with flat-screen TVs, fireplaces, and kitchenettes

The studio rooms at Lift House Lodge are simply decorated with white beds, neutral accents, a mix of tiled and carpeted floors, and dated wooden furniture. The design is more functional than stylish. All rooms include living rooms, flat-screen TVs, fireplaces, balconies, free Wi-Fi, and kitchenettes with microwaves, mini-fridges, coffeemakers, sinks, silverware, cookware, and platter ware. The units lack air-conditioning, which is only a problem on the hottest days. Bathrooms are simple with shower/tub combos, toiletries, and hairdryers.

Features

Indoor hot tub, laundry room, free Wi-Fi, public computer, restaurants in same building, and pet-friendly policies

Lift House Lodge has some nice amenities, even though it lacks a breakfast, pool, or gym. There’s a 12-person hot tub in a basement with tropical landscapes painted on the walls. A laundry facility on-site has coin-operated washers and dryers that are especially useful for long-term guests. The hotel has free Wi-Fi and a public computer with a printer. Guests can enjoy two restaurants located in the same building: Bart & Yeti’s, a relaxed bar and restaurant, and Montauk, a seafood restaurant, but the restaurants aren't operated by the hotel. Pets are welcome here, in certain rooms and for a fee.
