The upscale Ca' dei Conti is a charming hotel with 36 rooms set in an 18th century building. Its location is
excellent, within a five-minute walk of all the top sights such as St Mark's
Square and the Bridge of Sighs. The decor is traditionally elegant and ornate; rooms are decorated in deep, rich colors with gold touches. There’s no
restaurant on-site but a breakfast buffet is provided and can be taken on the
attractive sun terrace. Rates are significantly lower here than at the nearby
IQs Charming House, but there's no private jetty at the Ca' dei Conti (though the nearest vaporetto stop is only five minutes away on foot).
Scene
Opulent and romantic small hotel
The
decor at the Ca' dei Conti will leave you in no doubt as to where you are -- every
detail is true, opulent, traditional Venetian style. The lobby has a patterned marble floor
in warm, earthy colors. There are ornate pillars and a decorative, mirrored
reception desk adorned with large floral bouquets. Elegant and comfortable
velvet armchairs are placed in front of a huge black and white photo of Venice
on the wall. 18th-century-style furniture and embroidered tapestries are in keeping with the building’s heritage, and there are some unique historical
features too: the coat of arms of the building’s original owners (the aristocratic
Sherimann family) is still displayed in the hall's marble floor. It’s a charming
setting well-suited to couples on a romantic break.
Location
In a picturesque spot, a short walk to all the sights
Ca' dei
Conti is right in the historic heart of Venice, and quick and easy to get to.
From the San Zaccaria water bus stop, it’s just a five-minute walk to the hotel
through the narrow, cobbled streets. The building is in a stunning spot
overlooking a picturesque canal and accessed via a charming private bridge.
From here, everything is just a short walk away. The Querini Stampalia museum
and library is around the corner, less than a minutes’ walk away. And within five
minutes are the beautiful sights of St Mark's Square and the Basilica, Santa
Maria Formosa Church (one of the oldest in Venice), San Zaccaria Church, and
the world-famous Bridge of Sighs. It’s also easy to get to the islands of the
Venetian lagoon, like Murano, Burano and Torcello, as the Riva degli Schiavoni vaporetto
stops are just a five-minute walk away.
Rooms
Elegant and lavishly decorated rooms, but sizes vary
It’s
worth bearing in mind that room sizes vary greatly at the Ca' dei Conti. Some
have very little space to move around the bed, while others have generous amounts of
floor space. Each one has a charming, traditional Venetian style, and
many offer canal views. Rooms are decorated in rich blues and greens, with
yellow and gold accents. There are elegant and luxurious touches throughout,
like decorative drapes above the beds, padded headboards, gold flock wallpaper,
deep-pile carpets, antique furniture, and chandeliers in local Murano glass. Bathrooms
have lavish touches like decorative gold-framed mirrors and marble-topped
basins. Rooms have all the modern amenities that guests might need,
including air-conditioning, a safe, free newspaper, cribs or infant beds on
request, a flat-screen TV with satellite channels, hairdryer, and minibar. For
an extra dose of luxury, there are superior rooms and suites which offer a huge
amount of space and a whirlpool bath.
Features
Breakfast on a pretty sun terrace
The
hotel provides a free continental buffet breakfast with pastries, cheese, meat,
fruit, cereal, juice, and coffee. For an additional charge, a cooked,
American-style breakfast can be ordered. Breakfast can be served in the
breakfast room or on the hotel’s sun terrace which has comfortable woven chairs
and tables, and overlooks the rooftops and canals. Evening drinks can be taken
on the terrace too, and the space is lit with candles and lanterns at night.
Guests can help themselves to a map and tourist leaflets about the local
attractions, and staff are happy to book trips and restaurants. A private
airport transfer can also be arranged. Wi-Fi is available -- although there is
an extra charge for it -- and there’s a meeting room too for business travelers.
