Bottom Line

The 579-room Hilton Vienna is a huge, upscale property located a drive or train ride away from the most popular Viennese attractions. A park and restaurants are within walking distance of this white, high-rise building with contemporary, though sometimes generic, style. This property is home to a fine-dining restaurant, a stylish outdoor cafe, and a lounge bar with lots of TV screens. Rooms are pleasant and contemporary with a neutral color palette, big flat-screen TV, and a work desk with an ergonomic chair; higher floor rooms have views of Amstadt Park and St. Stephen's Cathedral. Although a bit bland, this property has some nice features, including a fitness center and a spa with sauna. One alternative with a bit more charisma (and a bit higher price tag) is the Ritz-Carlton, Vienna that is home to a beautiful rooftop bar.

Hilton Vienna

Scene

An upscale chain hotel with contemporary, if generic, style

The Hilton Vienna is a four-pearl chain property with an impressive lobby set under a massive, rectangular atrium. The high ceilings let in lots of light in the space where dozens of black leather armchairs are grouped around tables in the lobby's lounge bar. The lobby itself has shiny floors with marble accents and houses both a newsstand and a gift shop. Spaces are clean and bright, but a bit generic, giving off the feel of a big convention center hotel; tour buses pulling up in front of this property is not an uncommon sight. This hotel has good features for business travelers -- including a comprehensive business center and a small gym with a good array of equipment -- plus facilities that draw leisure travelers including a sauna, steam room, and a stylish outdoor cafe with greenery and umbrellas. Overall, this is a clean and contemporary property with good airport access, but it's a bit far from the main tourist attractions of Vienna.

The Hofburg Palace is a 20-minute walk or metro ride, or a 10-minute drive. The Museums Quartier Wien is a 10-minute drive or 28-minute metro ride. The Schonbrunn Palace is an 18-minute drive, and the adorable zoo near it is a 22-minute drive from the hotel. The train station, three-minutes by foot across the street from the hotel, offers a convenient and quick 16-minute ride to Vienna International Airport. A drive to the airport takes 15 minutes without traffic.
