The 33-room Hotel Topazz is an eco-friendly design boutique set in the vibrant heart of Vienna's 1st District. Exteriors are strikingly modern whilst interiors draw on early 20th century-Viennese art for inspiration -- especially the luxurious, though generally small, rooms which all feature original windowsill seating and gorgeous bathrooms. There's not much on-site, but all guests have access to plenty of amenities such as iPads and minibars stocked with free goodies. As you'd expect, rates aren't cheap, but not unreasonable for such a unique hotel in a prime location.
Scene
Striking design boutique
Partly inspired by the work of influential 20th-century Austrian artist Koloman Moser, Hotel Topazz is an ultra-modern piece of eye-catching architecture with a curving brown mosaic facade studded with elliptical windows. Although the property was built in 2012, the interior design in the lobby area draws heavily on Art Nouveau influences with plush-yet-restrained ornate gold touches and a smart cherrywood finish. A contemporary yet playful ambience presides, attracting a blend of well-heeled tourists and international business guests with an eye for cutting-edge design with a turn-of-the-century flavor. The hotel also boasts a seriously eco-friendly ethos which prevails through its amenities and practices.
Location
Located in Vienna's 1st district in the heart of the capital
Situated in Vienna's 1st district, Hotel Topazz has a prime, central location surrounded by a wealth of museums, designer shopping, and fine dining. Pretty much all of the city center's attractions are within walking distance, and those wanting to further afield will find a U-Bahn station (Stephansplatz) just three minutes away on foot. The hotel is also next to Vienna's Bermuda Triangle -- a nightlight district full of bars popular with students. Vienna International Airport is about 13 miles away or a 25-minute cab ride. Buses and trains also run into the center about every half hour.
Rooms
Luxurious rooms with windowsill seating, padded doors, and rainfall showers
This boutique has 33 rooms, all of which draw influence from Vienna's early 20th-century artistic heritage, and are accented by earth tones and warm cherrywood. Rooms feature playfully surreal duck feet lamps and curved window recesses which serve as comfortable spots for lounging and watching the street life outside. Bathrooms are inspired by 1930s luxury and are finished in chrome and marble, all with rainfall showers, quality toiletries, and bathrobes. Free high-speed Wi-Fi, minibars stocked with free goodies, and flat-screen TVs with satellite channels come standard. Rooms also feature padded doors.
Features
Excellent breakfast buffet and iPads on request
Although there's no proper restaurant on-site, guests can enjoy innovative Austrian specialties in the hotel’s Café Bar Bloom across the street, at the sister property Hotel Lamée. The café also serves an excellent breakfast with organic food options. Every guest is also privy to the Privileged Club Service perks which include a welcome gift and the contents of the minibar, as well as a Nespresso coffee machine and iPad on request.
