The cozy three-and-a-half-pearl Sundial Boutique Hotel has one of the best locations in Whistler -- right next to a ski lift. Its 49 modern yet homey one- and two-bedroom suites come with kitchenettes and fireplaces, and some have balconies with hot tubs. The hotel does well with three restaurants (breakfast is served at the pub), and there's a rooftop hot tub. Guests can also use the pool, which is open seasonally, at the hotel next door. On the downside, there are no fitness facilities. Travelers could also check out the Pan-Pacific Whistler Mountainside, which has a gym and pool on-site, though it's less intimate.
Scene
Homey hotel with rustic mountain decor that attracts couples and families
Located right next to a ski lift, the owner-operated Sundial Boutique Hotel has a low-key vibe. The lobby is decorated in warm tones, with rustic furniture, and a stone fireplace. Kids under 18 can stay in their parents' room at no additional charge, making the hotel popular with families, although couples and groups of friends find their way here too (note that travelers must be at least 25 years old to book a room here). The atmosphere is quiet, relaxed, and laid-back -- this is not the place for the party-hearty.
Location
Right next to a gondola and within walking distance of restaurants and shops
This boutique hotel is parked right next to the Blackcomb Excalibur Gondola. Whistler isn’t a large town, and restaurants, galleries, and entertainment are about a 10-minute walk from the hotel. Though the hotel doesn’t have ski or snowboard rentals on-site, there’s a shop right next door. It’s a seven-minute walk to Whistler Golf Club. Vancouver International Airport is a two-hour drive away.
Rooms
One- and two-bedroom suites with kitchenettes, fireplaces, and mountain views
Sundial Boutique Hotel offers 49 one- and two-bedroom spacious suites whose warm, homey decor befits its mountain setting. Decor varies slightly among the rooms, but the overall look includes warm tones of browns, reds, and yellow, with contemporary furniture, most of which was updated in 2016. All rooms include flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, separate living rooms, safes, fireplaces, and kitchenettes with microwaves, dishwashers, ovens, stoves, refrigerators, and coffeemakers. Views are either of the mountains or valley, and eight suites have balconies with hot tubs. Bathrooms have either showers only, shower/tub combos, or separate showers with jetted tubs. Aveda toiletries and hairdryers are provided. Rooms are pleasant overall, but some do show wear and tear, and some pick up noise from the bar.
Features
Hot tub, pool access, three restaurants, storage for bikes and ski equipment, and on-site parking
A rooftop hot tub is the highlight at Sundial Boutique Hotel. Guests can also use the outdoor pool (open seasonally), at the hotel next door. On-site dining options are surprisingly extensive and include the Mexican Corner, Sushi Village, and Black’s Restaurant & Pub. Breakfast is served for a fee at the pub, which has entertainment a few nights a week. There's one meeting room, free Wi-Fi, and a public desktop computer for guests' use, along with bike and ski storage, a coin-operated laundry room, and paid underground parking.
