- Chic, minimalist rooms with modern slate-tile bathrooms
- Free breakfast with pastries and bagels from a local bakery

Bottom Line
Opened in December 2013, Hotel Luxe is a boutique property located on Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn, a seven-minute walk to the subway into Manhattan. The rooms are stylish and minimalist and the bathrooms, while small, are clean and modern. The hotel offers affordable rates in an otherwise expensive city and is a good option for the budget traveller who doesn’t mind a subway ride to most attractions. However, the neighborhood does have higher crime rates than others in Brooklyn and the rooms can be noisy from train traffic outside and thin interior walls. Hotel Le Bleu, in nearby Park Slope, is also affordable and in a slightly nicer area.

Modern, reasonably priced property with stylish decor
The Hotel Luxe is a newer property, and it shows in the style and decor throughout the public spaces. The lobby -- while small -- is chic and stylish, with a large leather couch, two patterned chairs, a black coffee table, and a built-in electric fireplace. The hallways have wood floors and all signage is brown with a light blue matte border. There aren’t many common areas in the hotel besides the lobby and the breakfast room. The property attracts a mix of travelers, including international tourists and business travelers who need easy access to the reasonably nearby Barclays Center.
Location
A short subway ride to Brooklyn attractions, but far from Manhattan sightseeing
The Hotel Luxe is located between the Crown Heights and Bedford Stuyvesant neighborhoods. While not necessarily unsafe, the neighborhood is certainly evolving and can appear a little rough. Crime rates in Bedford Stuyvesant to the north are still among the highest in New York City. The hotel is on an unattractive, industrial stretch of Atlantic Avenue, filled with car lots and repair shops. However, there are convenience stores and restaurants short walk away. The A and C lines of the subway are a seven-minute walk from the hotel. The Barclay’s Center and Atlantic Terminal shopping are a nine-minute ride by bus, 18-minute subway ride, or 40-minute walk. It is a 20-minute subway into downtown Manhattan and a 40-minute ride into Midtown. The new boro (green) taxis make taking cabs easier to and from Manhattan, and they are getting more prevalent around Brooklyn neighborhoods. It's a 25-minute subway ride, or 30-minute walk to both Prospect Park and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Washington Square Park takes half an hour to reach on the subway while Times Square takes 40 minutes. JFK and LaGuardia are each a 30-minute drive away.
Rooms
Modern, stylish rooms with chic bathrooms
Rooms are spacious and modern, with hardwood floors, red accent walls, modern white bedding, and light-wood furnishings. Prints of iconic New York scenery of bridges and buildings hang on the walls. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, and free Wi-Fi. Some rooms also have safes. The bathrooms are small but chic, modern, and well-lit, with white vanities and gray slate on the walls and in the walk-in showers. The hotel is located directly across the street from the railroad tracks, so the rooms get a good amount of train traffic noise (the train runs once or twice an hour during the day and occasionally at night). Past guests have also complained of noise from other rooms.
Features
Free continental breakfast, free Wi-Fi, and free on-site parking
Hotel Luxe's limited amenities include a free continental breakfast served in a small room on the bottom floor. Items include juice, cereal, oatmeal, fruit, and coffee, as well as bagels, donuts, and other pastries from a local bakery. There is ample free parking in a safe, private lot located behind the hotel. There is no business center but the front desk provides printing and faxing services free of charge and Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
