The
ambience at Hotel Madera is chic and modern, with design-conscious features
running through rooms and communal spaces. Floor-to-ceiling
windows and doors make up the modern facade, complemented by swooping design that circles the entrance. The stylish lobby has mirrored chandeliers and all-white
walls, along with a curved wood-design reception desk fronting an accent wall covered with climbing plants. Elaborately high-backed chairs
in hot pink add another level of design, while corridors have a moody look with dark patterned carpets that contrast the pale walls.The chic
Horizonte Lounge on the hotel’s 29th-floor offers impressive views of the Hong
Kong cityscape. Open-air outdoor seating is a mix of high, black
wicker tables and chairs as well as tan wicker sofas paired with small white tables, surrounded by wood-paneled walls and green shrubs that add a dose of color. The interior space is similarly stylish and feels somewhat futuristic, awash in slick black hues and shiny metal surfaces. Meanwhile, the
homey Cafe 1997 -- named after the year in which Hong Kong attained independence
from the United Kingdom -- has large, colonial-style armchairs and Union Jack area rugs in a
bright, intimate space that has the feel of a living room, furnished with bookshelves, a faux fireplace,
and flat-screen TVs. Plenty of natural light pours in through the floor-to-ceiling
windows. The cafe service area has more of a traditional Hong Kong feel with a twist of industrial modernity evident in the mosaic tile flooring, brick walls, and a wood-and-metal counter.

Less than
two minutes on foot from the Jordan metro station, the hotel’s
impressive location also puts it within easy walking distance of many of the
city’s popular markets, restaurants, and sightseeing attractions. These include Temple
Street (four minutes), Victoria Harbour (seven minutes), and the Jade Market (eight minutes). Hong Kong airport
is around a 30-minute drive away. Another airport option is taking an hour-long shuttle bus ride, which drops passengers off a 10-minute walk from the hotel.

Guest rooms at the Hotel Madera are stylish and modern, with large windows offering both lots of natural light and lovely views over the city. Decor varies a bit among the different room categories; Deluxe and Premier Rooms have black-and-white patterned carpets that pair well with white bedding accented by red pillows and bed runners, while bright and airy suites and studios have wooden floors and a neutral color scheme set off by vibrant pops of color. Chic armchairs provide seating, and rooms are also equipped with work desks and chairs, flat-screen TVs, minibars (with a limited selection of non-alcoholic beverages), tea- and coffee-making facilities, iPod docks, and free Wi-Fi. Bright bathrooms have attractive granite walls or mosaic tile work and plenty of glass surfaces, plus they are outfitted in either soaking tubs or walk-in showers (or both). Suites and studios have double sinks and some have soaking tubs in the bedrooms, as well as other extras that can include dining areas, living rooms, kitchenettes, and lovely patios furnished with large cushioned daybeds and wicker seating. 

The Hotel Madera Hong Kong has the expected features for an upscale hotel, and several unexpected ones as well. The hotel's rooftop Horizonte Lounge offers stunning views over the city and has a lovely outdoor area. There's also a cozy and elegant cafe, the colonial-style Cafe 1997, which serves coffee and other beverages as well as pastries and sandwiches. Breakfast is not included, but there is a choice of three decent set menus available for an extra fee. The hotel’s fitness center, though small, contains plenty of cardio equipment and free weights, as well as flat-screen TVs, a free water dispenser, and towels. One unusual feature is the funky on-site art gallery and museum with engaging installations depicting Hong Kong’s cultural history. Another surprise is the dedicated video-game room has a 100-inch screen, a sofa, and two gaming seats fitted with steering wheels. Elegant meeting room facilities are also available, plus Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. Guests also have free use of
a Wi-Fi-enabled smartphone that offers unlimited free calls to all local numbers and some international ones. Guests should note that there are some reports of elevators being slow and at times out of service,
and there is limited space in the lobby for guests to store luggage when
checking out.
