The
Park Lane Hotel commands a prime location in Causeway Bay, just
across from Victoria Park and a few minutes' walk from an MTR
station. This upscale hotel has 834 guest rooms, some
with scenic city and harbor views. The public spaces are somewhat
generic, but many of the guest rooms have been recently renovated and
given a fresh, contemporary look and luxurious bathrooms. The many on-site features
include two restaurants and a bar, a rooftop terrace, fitness center,
sauna, steam room, a business center and conference facilities, but no pool. As an alternative, the lavish Harbour Grand Hong Kong has cheaper rates, a pool, and harbor views from all rooms, though they're not quite as stylish.
Scene
Massive, upscale chain hotel popular with business travelers
The
atmosphere at this imposing multistory property is similar to other
upscale business hotels around the world. The lobby area is vast and
uncluttered, but plain and somewhat generic. Floors are covered
in soft beige floor tiles and large olive-green and beige oriental
carpets, but there are few of the decorative details that other
hotels succeed in integrating into the decor to make public spaces
more inviting. Despite this, the general ambience is one of subdued
elegance: The wood-paneled reception counters are lined with black
marble and illuminated with elegant lamps. Oil paintings
decorate the walls behind the counters. The rooftop garden provides more panache with checkerboard artificial grass and potted plants. Most guests staying here are
business travelers, but the hotel's child-friendly approach also
attracts many families traveling on vacation.
Location
In Causeway Bay opposite Victoria Park
The
Park Lane Hotel is situated directly opposite Victoria Park in Hong
Kong's central Causeway Bay district. A large shopping mall is
located next to the hotel, and there are many chain and local shops, cafes, and
restaurants in the immediate vicinity. The area also has excellent
transportation links, with Causeway Bay MTR subway station just a few
minutes' walk away for easy access to most of Hong Kong.- Three-minutewalk to Victoria Park
Rooms
Renovated guest rooms with fresh and modern decor
Light-filled
and reasonably spacious by Hong Kong standards (258
to 366 square feet), the newly renovated guest rooms at The
Park Lane Hotel have a fresh and modern look. Floors are covered
with dark hardwood that contrasts with crisp white bed linen, and white walls accent the light-colored wood
paneling. A large black-and-white stencil drawing of a lily decorates
the wall behind the bed and provides an interesting decorative
accent. The furniture is simple and modern, and kept to a bare
minimum in the Premium Deluxe Rooms with just two bedside tables and a small
round table and chair. The bathrooms are luxurious, fitted with chic
vessel sinks and spacious walk-in showers with rainwater and
handheld showerheads. The tinted glass doors of the bathroom are
stenciled with the same lily motif found in the bedroom. As for in-room
amenities, there's everything expected of an upscale hotel:
air-conditioning, 40-inch flat-screen TVs, minibars, electric kettles, safes, and free Wi-Fi. Other handy extras
include irons and ironing boards, robes and slippers, hairdryers, and yoga mats. Some of the guest rooms on the higher floors enjoy scenic views of the harbor or Victoria Park. The
Premium Family Rooms feature one extra-large double bed and a single
bed, and according to hotel policy, two
children under 13 years can stay for free in the same room as their
parents. The Suites include separate living areas and a
few nice extras like leather sofas, espresso machines, and two
bathrooms. Guests staying in the Executive Club Rooms have free
access to the Executive Lounge where free breakfast, snacks, and
drinks are available. As of 2016, the renovation of the guest rooms seems to be on-going as some have not
yet been updated and still have dated decor and show signs of wear
and tear.
