Splendom Suites Gran Via is an upscale all-suites property catering to families, couples, and extended-stay business travelers. Its 26 units are full-size apartments with separate full kitchens, living rooms with sofa beds, and one or two bedrooms. Decor is chic and elegant throughout, and amenities are on par with those at other upmarket properties; they include smart TVs, free Wi-Fi, DVD players (on request), Nespresso makers, Hermes toiletries, and pillow menus. A games room for childre, and on-site parking are all there is in the way of property features, but the location two blocks from Gran Via offers easy access to restaurants, bars, shops and all major attractions, including Puerta del Sol, the Retiro, the Prado Museum, and the Royal Palace. Travelers looking to cook only basic meals may want to compare rates at Jardin de Recoletos, which features smaller suites with basic kitchenettes.
Scene
Small all-apartment boutique with chic interiors and great attention to detail
Housed in a traditional apartment building on a narrow pedestrian street off Fuencarral, Splendor Suites Gran Via is easy to miss. Two small bushes and a golden plaque mark the entrance of the property, and the small glass door doesn’t look much different from any of the others around it. However, once in side, the property has its own character, with stylish interiors and tons of details both in the few on-site common spaces and in rooms. The lobby is tiny but cute, with little more than a sleek front desk with warm LED lighting and fresh flowers. Although modern and stylish, a couple of details are nods at the origins of this turn-of-the-century apartment building, including a few small black-and-white charcoal portraits with thin golden frames, and charming white wainscoting. While there aren’t many common spaces and amenities here, the property goes the extra mile when it comes to services -- there are daily housekeeping, nightly turndown service, free coffee and snacks in the lobby, a lovely games room with toys, and on-site parking, which given the hotel’s location in a central pedestrian area can come in super handy.
Location
On a quiet pedestrian street blocks from all historic attractions and a metro stop
The hotel is located on a small pedestrian street a couple of blocks from bustling Gran Via, one of the city’s main thoroughfares. Fuencarral Street, known for its dozens of shops and street performers, is just half a block away, and there are plenty of restaurants and bars within a few minutes of the hotel. Major attractions can also be found within a 20-minute walk, including Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, the Retiro, the Royal Palace, Almudena Cathedral, and Prado Museum. Chueca, Malasaña and La Latina neighborhoods, all famous nightlife areas packed with bars, restaurants and shops, are also between 10 and 20 minutes away. Gran Via metro stop is two blocks away, and Atocha train station can be reached in about 20 minutes. Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas Airport is a 25-minute drive away, and the hotel offers airport transfers for a fee. There is also an airport express bus stop in Cibeles, a 10-minute walk from the hotel.
