Scene

Contemporary boutique hotel with artsy, vibrant decor

Despite its central position in the Central Business District, the Adelphi Hotel makes for a quiet city retreat. Built in 1938, it was originally used as a soft-goods warehouse, before being transformed in the late 80s by Denton Corker Marshall, who designed many central Melbourne properties. The hotel has a cool, contemporary look that comes from its artsy and whimsical candy-inspired aesthetic. The wire horse and cart sculpture in the lobby is a striking feature, and the free candy on the front desk adds a sweet touch. There are also swinging couches, Licorice AllSort stools, honeycomb ceilings, and hanging cherry lights throughout the property. The hotel's eateries and cocktail bar have a sophisticated, relaxed atmosphere, making them ideal spots for intimate meetings. The sleek rooftop pool deck is popular with sun-seekers, especially in the summer. It has a broad appeal thanks to its laid-back vibe, making it popular with couples, business travelers, and those on a weekend break.

Location

On Flinders Street, in the heart of Melbourne's business and entertainment district

The Adelphi Hotel is located in the south of the Central Business District, tucked away on a quiet street behind St. Paul's Cathedral. It's a great base for exploring the city's key attractions, and ideal for a short getaway. Hosier Lane is just around the corner, a spot that's famous for its vibrant street art and trendy coffee shops. Federation Square can be reached in just five minutes on foot, and the National Gallery of Victoria is a 12-minute walk. Bourke Street Mall is a 10-minute walk from the hotel, Melbourne Cricket Ground can be reached in 12 minutes on foot, and the Etihad Stadium is five minutes away by car. There are also numerous bars, cafes, and restaurants in the immediate area, and Flinders Street station is a five-minute walk, making it easy to get around by public transport. Melbourne Tullamarine Airport is a 30-minute drive from the hotel.

Rooms

Spacious rooms with contemporary decor with modern amenities

The Adelphi's 34 rooms are surprisingly spacious and light. They have a bold, contemporary design similar to the decor in the public areas, with graphic chevron stripe carpets and modern LED strip lighting. The palette is largely monochrome, with pops of vibrant color provided by decorative plants and soft furnishings. Each room has a small seating area, with a coffee table, large wooden standing lamp, and writing desk. All desks feature powerhub recharging stations, flat-screen LED Smart TVs, docking stations, Lavazza coffeemakers, and T-Bar tea-making facilities. The free candy is a thoughtful touch, and there are free daily non-alcoholic refreshments and the free in-room movies. The plush, comfortable beds have light wood headboards, white comforters, and trademark 'marshmallow' mattresses with Sleepmaker technology. Other amenities include air-conditioning, phones, safes, irons, unlimited movies, radio alarm clock, free robes and slippers, and free Wi-Fi in every room. As the hotel is located on a side street, the rooms have no real views. Bathrooms are spacious and minimally designed, with sleek metal sinks, glass-enclosed showers, and free Apelle's Apothecary toiletries. Some bathrooms include separate soaking tubs as well.

Features

Rooftop pool, multiple dining options, free candy, and free Wi-Fi

There are plenty of thoughtful touches and attractive facilities at the Adelphi Hotel. The free daily candy is a highlight, though the property is lacking a gym. The rooftop pool is a another bonus, with a unique glass-bottom that extends two meters beyond the building's periphery, eight floors above street level. There's also a lounge area and bar surrounding the pool that's lovely in the summer. The trendy fine dining hotspot, Ezard, can be found at the basement level, while the Mon Bijou cocktail bar and Om Nom Dessert Kitchen and Bar are ideal spots to grab a bite to eat or sample some sweet treats. There's also a cozy lobby, where an a la carte cafe-style breakfast is served daily, though this comes at an additional fee. Additionally, the hotel has a 12-seater boardroom that comes fully-equipped with modern technology, such as projector screens and streaming Apple TV. Other services includes laundry, babysitting, and room service. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
