Scene

A unique, colorful, fantastically stylized hotel

The Marina All Suites are geared toward younger tourists looking for a trendy, modern hotel. The hotel is uniquely and colorfully designed, truly distinguishing itself from other beachside properties. Inside, the mirrored reception desk sits under a low blue-painted ceiling, almost giving the sense of being underwater. A couch with teal damask fabric sits before a trio of gold tables carved into little gnomes. The least stylized common space is a small lounge/bar off the pool, with a gray couch and multicolored pillows and ottomans. The restaurants, however, take it to the next level. The Bar Do Lado's street-side patio extends from a bright orange wall, while inside, a range of red-orange tones combine with warm wood and plexiglass furniture. The much larger Bar di Hotel is the most expressive space, bringing together fabric chairs of all colors and designs with long blue drapes, multicolored pillows, and mirrors galore, including on the ceiling. By the elevators, the walls are covered with a large fanciful painting of mermaids and an underwater world.

Location

Right off the Ipanema-Leblon Beach in an upscale neighborhood with shops and cafes

The hotel is extremely well located, situated along Avenida Delfim Moreira across from the the Ipanema-Leblon Beach. Many hotel suites offer views of the water and the nearby Dois Irmãos Mountain. One of the more upscale parts of town, Leblon offers many restaurants, shops, bars, and clubs, and it's also considered safer than many neighborhoods in the city. There are many bus lines around, and a new metro stop is scheduled to open in 2016. Currently, reaching downtown Rio De Janeiro -- where many museums and cultural attractions are -- would take just over an hour by bus, and about 20 minutes by car. The international airport is 25 minutes' drive.

Rooms

Two-room suites are less impressive than the common spaces, but colorful and spacious

The one-bedroom suites here are spacious and comfortable, though subdued compared to the fantastical common spaces. All have vaguely 1960s-style furnishings that seem a bit worn, and brightly colored walls that are typically yellow or red. Living rooms have tiled floors and their spaciousness can make them feel a bit sparsely decorated, though each suite has two flat-screen TVs (one in the bedroom), a workspace, table for two, and a couch. Each standard Deluxe Suite also has a slick coffeemaker, stocked minibar, and safe; bathrooms have stall showers with pretty blue and green tiling, though are somewhat dated. Master and Super Deluxe Suites have kitchenettes with sinks, minibars, microwaves, and coffee machines.

Features

Two restaurants, 24-hour room service, and a beautiful dipping pool

Bar do Lado serves drinks and appetizers in the evening, while the Bar d' Hotel restaurant serves bistro fare for lunch and dinner, and a buffet breakfast that gets good marks for variety. There is 24-hour room service, too. On the roof is a small, glassed-in pool that's beautifully designed so as to blend in with the blue of the sky and ocean outside. While taking a dip, guests have unobstructed views across the horizon. The wood deck has large, plush white cushions for lounging, and the small sauna near the pool is done in gold mosaic tile. There's an understated bar area indoors near the pool, with wood, black, and slate tile decor. Across the street is Ipanema-Leblon Beach, where the Marina All Suites has (a limited number of) free chairs, umbrellas, and towels. There is one meeting room with space for 10 people.
