Bottom Line

The luxury Baglioni Hotel Regina is a romantic hotel for couples looking to be within walking distance to some of Rome’s greatest attractions like the Spanish Steps. A fitness center, spa, restaurant, and meeting spaces are all features of this hotel that used to be the residence of Queen Margherita of Savoy. Each room has a flat-screen TV, minibar, safe, and the option of a separate living room or terrace for Suites. But the flashy Art Deco decor doesn't appeal to all, and travelers should note there have been complaints about maintenance issues in the rooms. For those seeking a similar hotel in the same area, it may be worth checking the prices at Hotel Majestic Roma

Scene

A romantic, Art Deco-style hotel originally home to Queen Margherita of Savoy

Built in 1904, this hotel was originally the home of Queen Margherita of Savoy, and has an imposing cream-colored stone facade. Its Art Deco style evokes an age where history and modernism came together to form an attractive and romantic atmosphere. For the lobby, that means Murano chandeliers, purple Victorian-style furniture, gilded paintings, black-and-tan, diamond-patterned floors, and white marble staircases. The breakfast and dining rooms are slightly more modern, but still have eye-catching features like black-and tan-striped Louis XV chairs, large hanging spheres with tassels, and leopard-printed bar stools. But some may find the decor's more flashy elements borderline gaudy, and some of the patterns and colors are dated. The spa is a more restrained space, which combines cream walls with dark-wood touches and a reoccurring branch motif. Note that complaints have been made about the check-in process. Most guests are vacationing couples.

Location

Within walking distance to the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps

The hotel is within walking distance to many of Rome’s popular attractions. Villa Borghese, a beautiful large garden, is nine minutes from the hotel on foot, while the Trevi Fountain is a 12-minute walk and the Spanish Steps are a mere 11-minute walk away. The National Gallery of Ancient Art in Barberini Palace takes eight minutes to reach on foot. Piazza del Popolo is an 20-minute walk, and Piazza della Repubblica is a 10-minute walk. To visit Vatican City or the Colosseum, guests can take the subway from the Barberini metro station, which is only a six-minute walk away; they're about 45 and 30 minutes away on foot, respectively. Travelers can choose from numerous restaurants on surrounding streets. The Leonardo da Vinci International Airport is 40 minutes away by car.

Rooms

Art Deco rooms with minibars and marble bathrooms; terraces and living rooms in some

Like the hotel, the rooms have an Art Deco style, though color schemes differ across the different types of rooms. Some rooms have a cream color scheme, while others are done in deep maroon or navy and tan. All rooms have elegant headboards, luxurious heavy drapes, patterned-furniture or carpets, and chandeliers. Flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, minibars, and safes are provided in the rooms. Some rooms, like the Suites, come with terraces and separate living room areas. The Margherita Top Suite even includes a hot tub on the terrace. But complaints have been made about a lack of outlets and maintenance issues. The bathrooms are spacious and very luxurious with black, white, or tan marble tiles, sinks, and walls. Guests have the option of rooms or suites with showers, shower/tub combos, or large tubs with sprayers. Hairdryers, bidets, and the option of heated towel racks are other features of the bathrooms.

Features

Full spa, 24-hour gym, Mediterranean restaurant, breakfast buffet, bar, and meeting space

The Baglioni Hotel Regina has a combination of relaxation and business amenities. The Baglioni SPA by Cascehera SPA provides baths, beauty treatments, a sauna, whirlpool, and massages. There’s a 24-hour fitness center, though it's small for a hotel this size. The Brunello Lounge & Restaurant serves Mediterranean dishes and includes a full-service bar with creative cocktails. A pricey breakfast buffet is served daily, though it's included in the upper-category Baglioni Suites. For business amenities, the hotel offers three fully equipped meeting spaces for up to 100 guests, and a business center in the lobby. There's no on-site parking, however a parking area next door is available for a fee that's around average for Rome.
