Bottom Line

The 814-room Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista - Disney Springs™ Area hotel is a bustling three-and-a-half-pearl hotel that's located within Walt Disney Resort. That fact aside, it does feel like a busy conference hotel rather than a place for a Disney vacation. Disney Springs is across the street, and on-site food options include a Benihana. There are two large outdoor pools (which are handicap-accessible), and a hot tub as well. Plenty of conference space and a 24-hour business center draw plenty of business guests. Rooms look a bit tired, but come with mini-fridges and cable TV. Rates are lower than neighboring Disney hotels, but mandatory resort and parking fees are a bummer. For a similar hotel that has more family-friendly Disney character, try the Wyndham Lake Buena Vista instead.

Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista

Scene

Large, modern, business-oriented hotel that also accommodates families, with minimal Disney atmosphere

The Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista is a fine choice for those wanting lower rates than full-fledged Disney resorts, though it's not exactly the most characterful hotel in the region. In fact, it's geared mainly for business guests and has a more serious, corporate atmosphere. The lobby’s dramatic, high slanted ceilings, beige marble floor, and contrasting dark gray columns highlight the overall mood: traditional corporate style with modern touches. Other public areas such as the lobby bar echo the same vibe, with wood floors, dark lacquered wood tables, and cognac leather chairs. While its a pleasant enough look overall, things are starting to look a little less than fresh throughout the hotel. This Hilton does appeal to families as well, with a few Disney perks including a Disney shuttle (included in the resort fee) to theme parks and a Sunday Disney character breakfast (for a fee). However, these are limited compared with other Disney hotels, and there are no Extra Magic Hours. At 814 rooms, it’s constantly bustling with business guests, on-site conferences, and families -- though the hotel seems to handle the volume fairly well.

Location

Within Walt Disney World Resort, just across the street from Disney Springs

The hotel’s close proximity to Disney Springs -- with plenty of restaurants, shops, and entertainment -- is a big perk. The buzzing area is accessible via a convenient pedestrian-only walkway that cuts above the busy street and leads straight in, just over a five-minute walk away. The Disney shuttle, included in the resort fee, also stops there and runs every 30 minutes. Walking to any of the Disney theme parks may be a bit too far, but all are accessible via the shuttle -- reportedly punctual and reliable, although some complain it could run more frequently, and gets severely overcrowded at peak hours. Universal Studios is 15 minutes away by car, and Orlando International Airport is a 25-minute drive away.

Rooms

Corporate-style decor with comfortable beds, plus mini-fridges and Wi-Fi

The rooms here have a traditional look that, unfortunately, isn't all that exciting. Decor includes dark wood furnishings, a chess-patterned headboard, and clashing striped green carpets. We also spotted a bit of wear throughout the rooms, which is disappointing in a brand that considers itself high end. All rooms have the same decor, and some have pull-out sofa beds. Modern bedding and neutral toned curtains help even out the slightly stuffy, traditional atmosphere. There are accessible rooms as well as suites with sitting areas (only some of which are separate from sleeping areas). Bathrooms are done in neutral shades, plus sinks with granite countertops and shower/tub combos. All rooms come with mini-fridges, flat-screen TVs with cable channels, DVD players, and Wi-Fi. There are also allergen-free rooms available for those with sensitive allergies or asthma. Note that the Wi-Fi is advertised as free, but guests pay for it in the mandatory resort fee.

Features

Two outdoor heated pools, loads of decent dining options, and abundant meeting facilities

As a conference hotel that doubles as a Disney vacation hotel, the features reflect a bit of both worlds. There’s a huge outdoor pool area that includes two handicap-accessible outdoor pools, two hot tubs (one of them handicap-accessible), a large deck with sun loungers, and a poolside bar. Dining options are varied and plenty, with three restaurants including a Benihana, two bars, a gourmet grab-and-go market, and a huge number of restaurants to discover over in Disney Springs across the street. The fresh, paid breakfast buffet at Covington Mill has good selection, with eggs and omelets made to order, plus appearances by Disney characters on Sundays. There’s also a game room, a 24-hour gym with a fair range of exercise and weight-lifting machines, and a shuttle (included in the resort fee) to Disney theme parks that’s punctual and reliable, albeit slightly infrequent and overcrowded at peak hours.

For business guests, there’s plenty of meeting and event space, including a giant ballroom that accommodates over 2,000 guests. The 24-hour business center resembles an office and has Mac and Windows desktops. There’s also free Wi-Fi, but be prepared to pay high resort fees and parking fees. The resort fees cover the Wi-Fi, as well as DVD rentals, the Disney shuttle, and a free drink at the bar. Keep in mind that other Disney perks -- like Magic Bands or Magic Hours -- are not offered to guests at the Hilton.
