This 1,625-room hotel on the bay, near the Seaport Village Shopping Center and the San Diego Convention Center, has an impressive, elegant lobby -- but the big rooms, despite the 46-inch flat-screens and iPod docks, are a little bland and starting to show their age. The similarly priced Hotel Solamar has nicer rooms in a more happening Gaslamp Quarter location, though the Manchester is set to complete a major room renovation by fall 2013.
An enormous, business-oriented chain near the San Diego Convention Center
There are no surprises here: The Manchester Grand Hyatt delivers exactly what you would expect from a massive chain hotel next to a massive convention center. There's a gleaming, marble-tile lobby with soaring ceilings and chandeliers, and upstairs, chain-like rooms that range from ordinary to somewhat stylish. The hotel is renovating rooms throughout 2013 ; until renovations are complete, you'll find better rooms for your money elsewhere.
The Manchester Grand Hyatt is located on the San Diego Bay, across from the Seaport Village shopping center and down the street from the San Diego Convention Center. It's within walking distance of the historic Gaslamp Quarter, which is home to some of San Diego's best restaurants, shopping, and nightlife.

Rooms
46-inch flat-screens, iPod docks and bay views -- but the furniture is old
Guestroom
Rooms have 46-inch flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, and, in many cases, great views of the bay. But aside from the bright pink and green bedding accents, the decor is generic, and the furniture and carpets could use replacement. The hotel started renovating rooms in spring of 2012, and updated rooms have more stylish decor -- but it's worth waiting until renovations are complete to ensure you get one.
