Oyster Review Summary

Photos and Review by Oyster.com Investigators

Pros

  • Large rooms with comfy beds
  • Blocks from the subway
  • Within walking distance of some tourist attractions
  • Upper floors offer great views
  • An outdoor pool
  • A convenience store, Tim Horton's, on-site
  • Free Wi-Fi

Cons

  • Adjacent Allan Gardens feels a bit seedy at night
  • Drab bathrooms and room decor

Bottom Line

This mid-range chain located near the University of Toronto isn't luxurious, but it does offer large rooms at low prices. You'll be sharing the building with long-term residents, and the adjacent park can feel a little seedy at night, but the hotel is only a few blocks from the subway and within walking distance of some tourist attractions, such as Eaton Centre, the massive shopping complex. You may want to request a higher floor for better city views.

Oyster Hotel Review

 Location

In the Queen's Park and The University District, next to Allan Gardens -- but blocks from the subway

Located in the Queen's Park and the University District, Best Western Primrose Hotel is just blocks from the subway, connecting guests to many tourist attractions. Some attractions, such as Eaton Centre in the Entertainment District, are within walking distance of the hotel.

This area is home to one of Canada's top ranking schools, beautiful neo-Gothic buildings, and a tree-dotted park with monuments, footpaths and benches. It's a lovely area to explore by foot, and offers easy access to the rest of the city via public transportation. Bustling pubs and diverse restaurants attract a young crowd, as well as those who work in the legislative buildings housed in the university campus. Some parts of the neighborhood can feel a little seedy at night, particularly around Allan Gardens (which the hotel is adjacent to), but there are also lots of hotels clustered here -- if you use the buddy system you probably won't have to worry.

  • 30-minute drive to Pearson International Airport
  • 15-minute walk to Queen's Park, a park of gardens and monuments
  • 15-minute walk to Eaton Centre, a huge shopping mall that's one of Toronto's most popular attractions
  • 5-minute drive to the Royal Ontario Museum, or 20 minutes via public transportation
  • 6-minute drive to the University of Toronto, or 15 minutes via public transportation
  • 7-minute drive to the Distillery District, a historic area of shops, restaurants, and galleries, or 20 minutes via public transportation
  • 10-minute drive to CN Tower, or 20 minutes via public transportation
  • 10-minute drive to Rogers Centre, or 25 minutes via public transportation
  • 10-minute drive to Casa Loma, a Gothic Revival style mansion and museum, or 30 minutes via public transportation
  • 15-minute drive to Bloor Street, lined with shops, historic sites, and theaters, or 20 minutes via public transportation
  • 35-minute trip to Centre Island via driving and a ferry ride
