Travelers on a tight budget who want only a clean, modern bedroom and a small, private bathroom will find both here, but the easyHotel Amsterdam -- based on the same concept as the budget easyJet airline -- offers little else. A concept hotel designed around bare-bones rooms and rock-bottom prices, the easyHotel charges guests for amenities from hairdryers to Wi-Fi on an à la carte basis. Its secure, functional rooms are a clean, pleasant alternative for tourists who'd prefer not to stay in a hostel, and are also popular with business travelers looking for a cheap room near the city's southern business district -- in other words, the hotel is best for those who don't plan on spending much time at their hotel. Anyone who would scoff at having to pay a fee for television should steer clear and look into the more inclusive Qbic Hotel Amsterdam WTC.
Oyster Hotel Review
easyHotel Amsterdam City Centre South
Minimalist and functional, a step above a hostel
Like its sibling operation, easyJet (a European budget airline), easyHotel Amsterdam is decorated in a bright, minimalist style: simple white spaces with orange accents prevail throughout the hotel. The easyHotel forgoes a proper lobby in favor of a bench in a hallway, leading to a futuristic-looking white check-in desk. The walls are stenciled with a simple line graphic depicting Dutch buildings and landmarks, giving the space some local character. There's little to encourage socializing or lounging here; most guests are at the hotel to sleep, spending the rest of their time out and about, or in business meetings.
On a residential street in the heart of De Pijp, walking distance to major sights
The easyHotel Amsterdam is on the corner of a busy road and a residential street in the De Pijp neighborhood, just south of the city center. The main thoroughfare outside the hotel is lined with shops, restaurants, and cafes, but the charming, more residential neighborhood quiets down at night. The hotel is within walking distance of the popular Albert Cuyp Market, Heineken Experience, and RAI Convention Center. The Museum Quarter is nearby; the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, and Stedelijk Museum are all within a 15- to 20-minute walk. There's also a tram stop a few minutes from the hotel, where you can catch a short tram to the city center. Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport is less than a 20-minute drive away.
Tiny and minimal with no extras; most have large windows with lots of light
The rooms at the easyHotel Amsterdam keep with the same minimalist, white-and-orange decor of the rest of the hotel, with a focus on pragmatic design. Four walls and a twin bed -- or two -- with not even a closet in sight. Although tiny, most of the simple, uncluttered rooms are bright and cheery, but not all rooms have windows (windowed rooms cost slightly more). Every amenity costs extra, from the flat-screen TV to a hairdryer, which must be checked out at the front desk. The bathrooms take a cue from the chain's airline in their compact design: they're essentially a walk-in shower with toilet and sink. Partitioned from the room by glass walls, bathrooms are not fully private, with only a frosted-glass center. Despite being on a major street, rooms are quiet.
Locker room, bicycle rental, and guest computer
Like everything else at this concept hotel, the features are slim, and they all cost extra. A locker room on the ground floor provides secure storage for belongings. In the same room, there's also a single Mac computer with internet access that can be rented by the hour. The snack and coffee vending machines in the lobby serve the only refreshments on site. For getting around to eateries and other places with more amenities, bicycles can be rented on-site for a daily fee.
