Bottom Line

The mid-range, 161-room BQ Andalucia Beach is a run-of-the-mill property overlooking Playa Torre Del Mar. There's a general lack of on-site features -- such as a fitness center and kids' club -- plus dated decor and charges for in-room Wi-Fi. The bland, traditionally styled rooms have flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, and mini-fridges. Most rooms have a furnished balcony, and some offer sea views. There are an outdoor pool, rooftop solarium, and international buffet restaurant that receives mostly positive reviews. Guests are a quick two-minute walk from the beach and surrounded by bars, shops, and restaurants. Travelers may prefer Marinas de Nerja Aparthotel, a beachfront hotel in Nerja that has more on-site features, including a kids' club and spa.

BQ Andalucia Beach Hotel

Scene

Family-friendly hotel with mix of modern and dated spaces

Bq Andalucia Beach has a modern, angular exterior, but interiors are a mixed bag. A prime example of this is the lobby itself, which has sleek gray marble flooring and dark-green marble accents, contemporary, minimalist neutral-tone seating, and a wood-planked reception desk. The simple restaurant has wood tables and chairs, the latter topped with grayish-brown cushions that match the columns. Rooms are similarly bland and decorated in light colors, while meeting spaces have dated brass chairs with blue, patterned fabric and frumpy couches. Overall, this run-of-the-mill hotel has a simple and underwhelming design. Still, it's pleasant enough for most, and guests tend to be coupes who don't mind the lack of kid-friendly features.

They come with light-marble, traditional-style wood furniture, chairs topped with dated striped fabric, and old-fashioned pinkish-hued bedspreads and curtains. A couple pieces of artwork hang on the walls. All have desks and side tables, as well as air-conditioning, safes, flat-screen TVs, and mini-fridges. Most rooms have furnished balconies and some have water views. Wi-Fi is available for a fee. Features

A rooftop solarium, small pool, and buffet eatery

Aside from a small pool and beach across the road, BQ Andalucia Beach doesn't have much to entertain kids. The small pool is surrounded by artificial grass topped with a generally sufficient number of loungers. As an alternative to the pool area, guests can head up to the rooftop solarium, which has daybeds, loungers, and pretty views of the ocean. The buffet restaurant serves international fare for all meals and receives mostly positive reviews. Half-board and full-board dining options are available. A lobby bar and outdoor terrace are also on-site for drinks and a bite. Wi-Fi is free in the lobby and a large event and meeting space is on-site as well.
