Royalton Negril

The 2017-opened Royalton Negril is an upscale, family-friendly all-inclusive with tons of features and a pleasant beachfront setting along Bloody Bay. The 407 rooms are fresh, spacious, and swish, equipped with jetted tubs, outdoor spaces, free Wi-Fi, and coffeemakers. A plethora of restaurants include a steakhouse, teppanyaki spot, and Italian eatery, plus there are several bars, though top-shelf liquor is only free for Diamond Club members. An ocean-view pool with a swim-up bar, kiddy pool with waterslides, and beach packed with loungers under umbrellas allow guests to spread out, but some areas can feel crowded at times. A full-service spa, excellent fitness center with daily classes, outdoor theater, kids’ club, and non-motorized water sports are all available. Diamond Club guests get butler service, lounge access, and daily hydrotherapy sessions. It’s worth comparing rates with Beaches Negril Resort & Spa.

Jalsa Beach Hotel and Spa

Situated in Mauritius’ quieter northeast region, the mid-range Jalsa Beach Hotel and Spa is ideally suited for travelers seeking a bit more to do than offered by most of the island’s mid-range hotels. There’s little in the surrounding area, but the solid list of resort-style amenities: a semi-private beach, a beautiful pool with an adjacent bar, and a large, open-air, buffet restaurant with all-day dining — should keep most travelers happy. All 66 rooms blend traditional and contemporary design elements and feature flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and private patios/balconies. Suites upgrade to spacious, multi-room layouts and sea-view balconies. Radisson Blu Poste Lafayette Resort & Spa, Mauritius offers more sophistication in an adult-only, all-inclusive package for slightly higher rates.

Villas HM Palapas del Mar

The upper-middle-range Villas HM Palapas del Mar is a charming, peaceful boutique set on a gorgeous beach a 10-minute walk from restaurants and shops in Holbox. Its 52 rooms are simple but airy, with lovely rustic touches, free (if sometimes spotty) Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, and balconies or patios with rope hammocks. Ground-floor units have private plunge pools surrounded by plants and flowers. Though the beach is the highlight here, the hotel also features two pools — a big one by the main restaurant and a smaller one on the rooftop. Food here is excellent, both in the main buffet and the sushi eatery, and guests can choose from a variety of meal plans ranging from breakfast-only to All-Inclusive Premium. Those considering an unplugged vacation may want to compare rates at the slightly more upscale CasaSandra Boutique Hotel.
