Bottom Line

The Sheraton Brussels Hotel is an upper-middle-range, 511-room business-oriented property on the edge of the capital's financial district. Its location also means easy access to transport links to both the airport and the city's tourist center. Traditionally styled rooms are dated, but have flat-screen TVs and great views from those on the higher floors. There's an indoor rooftop pool, with cityscape panoramas that are the real showstopper. Two restaurants, a bar, spa, and modern fitness center are additional amenities. Wi-Fi comes with a fee though, so travelers seeking free access -- and more stylish rooms -- should check out the similarly priced Radisson Blu Royal Hotel.

Scene

Business-oriented hotel set in modern 30-floor tower

With more than 30 floors, the Sheraton Brussels is one of the tallest hotels in the Belgian capital. Beyond size, however, its modern business-tower architecture isn't likely to impress. The often-bustling, open-plan lobby is styled in understated earth tones, creating an immediately professional yet inviting vibe. Most of the interiors are well-maintained, but decor is uninspired and dated, particularly in the guest rooms. Business travelers make up most of the clientele, but the hotel also attracts leisure travelers likely drawn by the stunning views from the hotel's top-floor pool.

Location

Set in bustling central business district with excellent transportation links

The hotel is located in a busy business area in the center of Brussels, right on the edge of the financial district, overlooking part of the capital's central ring road. It's set right next to a large shopping mall, and surrounded by numerous retail outlets, restaurants, and offices buildings. The Rogier Metro station is also less than a minute away on foot, which connects to the more touristic and historic part of the city. The old botanical gardens and cultural center of Botanique are less than a 10-minute walk away. The Brussels-North railway station is also a seven-minute walk away, with direct links to Brussels Airport (about a 10-minute ride) and destinations throughout Belgium.

Rooms

Dated rooms have a traditional style; some have stunning views of the city.

One of the largest hotels in Brussels, the hotel has more than 500 rooms and suites spread over 30 floors. While interiors are well-maintained, the rag-effect walls, patterned carpet and headboards, and light wood furnishings are dated -- even in Club Rooms. The suites have more modern decor, with a gold, black, and white color scheme. Standard amenities include mini-fridges, tea- and coffee-making facilities, and flat-screen TVs; Wi-Fi is free for a limited time, then requires a fee. Room service is available 24/7. Bathrooms include shower/tub combos, brand-name toiletries, and wall-mounted hairdryers. Upper-floor rooms are quieter and offer spectacular cityscape views, while those on the street level can be prone to traffic noise.

Features

Selection of restaurants, a stylish bar, indoor rooftop pool, spa, and fitness center

A buffet breakfast is served in the Crescendo Restaurant and offers a decent selection of cold and cooked items, but it's not included in the standard rate. This main restaurant overlooks the street and serves Belgian-inspired fare for lunch, while Le Train restaurant specializes in burgers. The O Bar is more contemporary in style, with minimalist-though-comfy furniture and a high-end atmosphere. Espressamente by Illy is a small, bustling cafe that can also be entered from the street.

A stand-out feature is the hotel's indoor rooftop pool, which is large and has excellent vistas of the city. There's also the Horizon Club spa with a variety of treatment options, and a modern 24-hour fitness room, with cardio and strength-training machines, as well as free weights. A lounge is available for Club Room and higher category guests.
