The budget Agape Aparthotel is in a convenient, if somewhat noisy, location on the Pest side of Budapest, near shopping, nightlife, and public transportation. Its 35 large, apartment-style rooms have well-equipped modern kitchens, which are ideal for groups or those looking for longer stays at budget rates. Apart from the 24-hour reception, though, the Aparthotel lacks all regular hotel services and facilities, so food, drink, and entertainment must be sought elsewhere. Housekeeping is weekly, and there's a fee for air-conditioning, though Wi-Fi is free throughout. The rates may be a bit higher, but the nearby All-4U Apartments are closer to the city center and have more on-site facilities.
Scene
Functional modern apartment building with nominal decor
Compared to the old apartments and houses surrounding it, the Agape Aparthotel is in a relatively modern building with windows ascending six stories on a twist following its rising staircase. It has a small acid-green reception room, cluttered with maps, tour brochures, and guidebooks, and an oversized black couch. The interior halls are clean and bright, opening to the central staircase that winds around the glass elevator.
Location
On a busy, narrow street nearby historic sites, shopping, and public transportation
Agape Aparthotel is located in the historic Erzsebetvaros district of Budapest, surrounded by old apartment buildings as well as shops, cafes, and restaurants. The hotel is just under a 20-minute walk from the popular Váci utca (Vaci Street), the northern section of which is popular for shopping, while the southern part is mainly for exploring local history. Nearby public transportation includes a bus stop and the Blaha Lujza ter underground station, both of which are just a three-minute walk away. The Széchenyi Chain Bridge over the Danube River can be reached in about 21 minutes via public transportation; attractions like Buda Castle or the famous Gellert Baths are just across the river. The Budapest Airport is 30 minutes away by car, or an hour and 20 minutes by public transportation.
Rooms
Large apartments with full kitchens and living rooms, some with private balconies
The hotel has studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments, all with dining areas, living rooms, and full kitchens. Their contemporary decor and light wood furniture are relatively plain, and, despite more modern updates throughout, the TVs are outdated tube models. Some have balconies with plastic patio furniture and views of the street or neighboring apartments. The modern kitchens have microwaves, refrigerators, coffeemakers, ovens, and glass electric ranges. Tiled bathrooms have washing machines, shower/tub combos, and heated towel racks. Housekeeping changes towels every three days and bedding every seven days. Air-conditioning, while available in all apartments, costs extra. Note that noise from nearby bars can be audible in some rooms late into the evening, especially on weekends.
Features
24-hour reception, breakfast discount, underground parking
Although there's no restaurant here, a discounted breakfast is offered off-site at a cafe nearby. The 24-hour front desk will also assist with arranging sightseeing tours, booking tickets, or renting cars and bicycles. A secured luggage room and safe deposit boxes are available in the reception area, and there’s also an on-site underground parking garage available for a fee.
