Bottom Line

This 44-room resort sits on the championship Blue Rock Golf Course in the midst of a quiet residential neighborhood. The 18-hole course is the main highlight, although this mid-range hotel also offers a heated pool, casual restaurant with adjacent lounge, and access to amenities at the property's four sister resorts nearby. This hotel is usually a bit more serene that its sister properties, and tends to attract more couples than families. Although it offers tranquil surroundings, the resort's inland location means there are no ocean views. The rooms are very dated, with low-quality comforters.

Blue Rock Resort

Scene

Quieter than its sister resorts

Usually much quieter and calmer than its sister resorts, this 44-room hotel is located in a residential neighborhood just off Route 6. With a renowned golf course on the property, it’s understandable that the resort is more oriented to adults than kids, although children are definitely welcome.

There’s a heated pool and a restaurant with adjacent lounge, but the star of the property is the par-3 golf course designed by Geoffrey Cornish. Guests also have use of amenities at the four sister properties nearby, including the spa at Red Jacket Beach Resort.

Since guests have access to all the sister resorts, days at the beach are possible by visiting Red Jacket Beach, Blue Water, and Riviera Beach resorts, where the hotels each have sprawling private beaches. However, the Blue Rock's inland location means that there are no ocean views.

Location

Off the main highway in a quiet neighborhood

Right off Route 6, the resort is located in South Yarmouth, which is in the middle of Cape Cod. South Yarmouth and the surrounding areas are more “strip mall” than adorable charming Main Street like you might find in other Cape towns, but the beach area is quite nice. Blue Rock is located in a quiet residential area without a lot going on nearby, so if you want to shop and dine, you’ll need to head back out to Route 6 or south to Route 28 towards West Dennis or West Yarmouth. Down on Route 28, you’ll find chain restaurants, convenience stores, and shops carrying everything from tacky souvenirs to beach toys. There are also numerous mini-golf courses in either direction on Route 6.

The Cape is a popular vacation destination, as travelers from all over New England and beyond pack the beaches and cute towns every year. Be forewarned, Route 6 can become something of a parking lot during the height of the summer, what with having only two lanes of traffic and being the only way in and out of the Cape.

Rooms

No-frills, with dated decor

Decor in these no-frills rooms is dated, which is fairly standard for mid-range Cape hotels. The patterned bedspreads and curtains look like they’re from the 1980s -- and often clash with the carpeting and upholstered furniture. Some rooms only offer tube TVs, while others have been updated with flat-screen TVs. The free Wi-Fi is a plus, as is the inclusion of balconies or patios with all rooms. Some rooms feature lovely views of the surrounding golf course. All are sizable, with bathrooms that offer a decent amount of space.

Upgrade to the Clubhouse Suite for a separate living area and kitchen, and a nice deck overlooking the golf course.

  • Private decks or patios overlooking the golf course, pool, or gardens
  • Pet-friendly rooms are available (fees apply)
  • Upgrading to the Clubhouse Suite gets you a living room and kitchen, as well as a deck overlooking the golf course
