DoubleTree by Hilton Avanos – Cappadocia

Most of the hotels in Cappadocia are family-owned and full of individual character, plus they have cave-style rooms the region is known for. However, at the DoubleTree, guests will get a cookie-cutter chain option that makes it an ideal spot for business or family travelers who feel more comfortable staying with a brand they know. The vibe here is much more corporate than surrounding hotels, featuring sleek and contemporary decor in neutral tones, wood floors, a lobby fireplace, and bright lighting. A little bit of local flavor can be seen in the lobby's stone walls and hand-painted pottery. The design throughout is a bit staid but certainly pleasant and attractive.

The hotel has a slightly removed location in Avanos, situated on a quiet hilltop with views across the valley. The closest neighbors are hotels, and there are a few restaurants, bars, and shops in the city center, which is about a 20-minute walk away or a four-minute drive. Nearby places of interest such as the underground cities, fairy chimneys, and Goreme city can be reached by car in 15 to 20 minutes. Nevsehir Airport is a 25- to 35-minute drive from here. Free parking is available.

The hotel's 126 rooms and suites reflect the expected DoubleTree style and design, with some Ottoman-inspired touches such as arched stone cutout seating areas with fresco paintings. Dark wooden furniture and leather headboards are attractive, as is the neutral-tone and deep red color scheme. All rooms have comfortable Sweet Dreams by DoubleTree beds, minibars, electric kettles alongside instant coffee and tea, and free bottles of water. Unlike several other hotels in the area, units at this property are fully carpeted. 

Lowest-level Standard Rooms have 32-inch flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, an assortment of toiletries, work desk areas, and shower/tub combos. Suites add stylish separate living rooms, 42-inch TVs, and wet bars. Some guests have noted that the bathrooms feel a bit small, as do rooms if adding a cot. 

Being managed by a large, worldwide entity has its perks, as the DoubleTree by Hilton Avanos Cappadocia rises above several of its regional competitors with ample amenities and facilities. The hotel's spa is inclusive of a small, contemporary fitness room with Precor machines, a large indoor pool with hot tub, an outdoor pool surrounded by a spacious sundeck, and an assortment of rooms ranging from a big sauna, two Turkish baths, and a shock shower. 

After all the relaxing works up an appetite, guests can head over to the main restaurant, which serves both international cuisine and Turkish specialities -- or room service is available. This large space is also where guests can grab the free, varied buffet breakfasts. Additionally, a lobby lounge has a fireplace, bar seating, and views over the pool.

The hotel is set up nicely for business travelers with meeting rooms and a business center offering copy/fax services, cell phone rentals, video conferencing capabilities, and even secretary service. Family-friendly amenities include kids' menus, babysitting services (fee), and cribs. There's also a beauty salon, shops, tour desk, concierge, and foreign currency exchange available.
