Bottom Line

The 136-room Aloft Ballantyne has an ultra-contemporary, minimalist feel. The rooms lack a lot of color (dark, sleek, and sexy is the name of the game here) and are relatively small, but feature large flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi. The lobby, though, packs in a lot of color with funky furniture, and has a pool table, a 24-hour mini-mart, and a bar. Catering to business travelers, the hotel, which overlooks a golf course on one side and a corporate park on the other, has a small 24-hour fitness center and a small indoor pool that families may also enjoy.

Oyster Hotel Review

Aloft Charlotte Ballantyne

Location

Next door to the corporate park and the golf course in Ballantyne, just off I-485

Only a couple decades ago, Ballantyne was covered by sprawling farmland. But nowadays the upscale neighborhood is home to several gated communities, a corporate park, a couple of golf courses, and a large shopping complex with numerous dining options and a movie theater. It is one of the safer neighborhoods in Charlotte.

About 25 minutes from the more culturally-rich Uptown area, Ballantyne does not have much to offer tourists (there are few museums or historic sites, with perhaps the most interesting site being a modern monument representing transportation, technology, human spirit, and finance -- not particularly thrilling). However, its location right off of I-485 makes it easy enough to travel to other areas of Charlotte, although traffic can get heavy.

  • 28-minute drive to Charlotte Douglas International Airport
  • 1-minute drive to Ballantyne Corporate Park
  • 2-minute drive to the Charlotte Golf Club at Ballantyne
  • 3-minute drive to Ballantyne Village
  • 22-minute drive to the Bank of America Stadium
  • 24-minute drive to Uptown Charlotte
