  • Near Wrigley Field and the Lincoln Park Zoo
  • Free Wi-Fi

Cons

  • No room service or restaurant

Bottom Line

For a Days Inn, this 133-room hotel has a lot of history: It used to be known as the Rock and Roll Days Inn, and had many famous bands and musicians coming through. There are solid freebies on offer -- Wi-Fi, breakfast, LA Fitness passes, and on-site fitness center access -- and the rooms are clean and comfortable. The Lincoln Park area is far from most tourist sights, so if a downtown location is a necessity, look into the Hampton Inn Chicago Downtown/Magnificent Mile.

Rooms

Clean, with basic contemporary decor

None

Rooms are plain, with brown carpeting, beige walls, and simple furniture. But they're immaculately maintained and impressively equipped (free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, and safes; some rooms have microwaves and mini-fridges). Bathrooms are also basic, but spotless, and have wall-mounted hairdryers, basic toiletries, and shower/tub combos. Rooms facing the street may get noise from outside traffic and nearby bars, but the hotel provides ear plugs.

Features

Solid freebies: Wi-Fi, continental breakfast, and gym access

None

The hotel provides a free breakfast buffet each morning, with waffles, toast, bagels, pastries, oatmeal, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, juices, teas, and coffee. And unlike many value hotels offering continental breakfast spreads, the Days Inn Chicago actually provides a decent amount of tables and chairs in its breakfast room. In addition to the free breakfast, the hotel has a free on-site fitness center, plus access to LA Fitness next door (with an indoor track, lap pool, sauna, and whirlpool). There's a daily fee for valet parking, but Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. There are also vending machines, an ice machine, laundry facilities, and a 24-hour front desk staff. Pets aren't allowed.
