Bottom Line

Filion Suites Resort & Spa is suited to travelers who want an escape, and don't mind doing a little extra leg work to get there. The upscale resort is located at the end of a quiet mountain road, and while surrounded by a few homes and other accommodations, there is virtually nothing else nearby. There are dining options on location, including a poolside cafe and daily buffet breakfast. The 94 rooms include a significant number of Family Suites, all with minimalist modern decor, and balconies -- some with mountain views. While the resort does make an effort to be family-friendly -- it has a playground and two kids' pools -- its remote location makes it better suited to couples looking for a relaxing getaway.

Oyster Hotel Review

Filion Suites Resort & Spa

Scene

Sunny, light-filled public spaces with mountain views

The hotel lobby, with its high ceilings and mostly glass ceiling, is sun-drenched and welcoming. Modern in its decor, the mostly white backdrop is brightened by pops of color -- a green couch or a leather sofa, for example. The hotel takes advantage of the light-filled room, decorating it with flowers and plants, including a tree directly underneath the glass portion of the ceiling. Guests gather at the gorgeous pool and adjacent sun deck overlooking the mountains. Lithos Restaurant and Pool Bar has chic brown leather seating and stone floors, with lots of windows and open areas for taking in the view -- including outdoor seating areas.

Location

At the end of a mountain road surrounded by virtually nothing

Up a rustic mountain road -- which barely fits one car -- and a 10-minute drive to the beaches of Bali, Filion Suites Resort & Spa is the type of resort that's truly away from it all. There's nothing in the immediate area in the way of shopping or restaurants, and the mountain views come complete with views of sheep. But the hotel runs a van to the beaches and tavernas of Bali, and the busier town of Panormo is also a short drive away. A car is necessary for guests of the hotel.
