Scene
Business hotel with modern decor and a chic atmosphere
Located on a commercial street with many
restaurants and small businesses, Hotel Active Hakata occupies a tall, narrow 14-story building. The sliding glass entrance doors lead to the reception
area, whose gray marble floors and long black, sleek reception counter immediately convey the impression that this is a chic, modern hotel. Tucked
into a corner of the lobby is a stylish sitting area that looks as if it’s straight
out of someone’s loft apartment, with two large, white contemporary-style
sofas topped with neutral-colored pillows, a mod rectangular fireplace, and a shelf holding
travel-themed objects and a collection design books. The chic, modern ambience continues into the adjacent breakfast lounge and guest rooms. Guests are mostly business travelers, but solo vacationers find their way here too.

Rooms
Small, simple but pleasant guest rooms
The 49 guest rooms at Hotel Active Hakata are small but decorated in a simple, pleasing style. Walls are painted in
tones of white and gray, and the floor is covered in wall-to-wall brown and
beige patterned carpeting. The furniture is minimal, consisting of little more than beds and desks, giving the rooms a dorm look. Bathrooms are cramped: Bathtubs, which double as showers, are tiny, and sinks are squeezed in between the toilets and tubs. All the rooms come with free
Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, toiletries, and air purifiers (very common
in Japan), and a few thoughtful extras, like room slippers, black pajamas, and phone chargers with multiple plugs. Electric kettles,
irons, and ironing boards are available on request.
Features
Japanese-style public bath, buffet breakfast, free Wi-Fi, laundry machines
A highlight at Hotel
Active Hakata is the on-site Japanese public bath, or "onsen," which
guests are free to use throughout the day. The buffet breakfast, served each
morning in the breakfast room adjacent to the lobby, serves a variety of dishes -- both Japanese and Western -- but it's not included in room rates. A laundry room with five machines is available free to guests, as are two computers and a photocopier. Vending machines sell drinks, and ice and coffee and tea machines are on every floor. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
