restaurants and small businesses, Hotel Active Hakata occupies a tall, narrow 14-story building. The sliding glass entrance doors lead to the reception
area, whose gray marble floors and long black, sleek reception counter immediately convey the impression that this is a chic, modern hotel. Tucked
into a corner of the lobby is a stylish sitting area that looks as if it’s straight
out of someone’s loft apartment, with two large, white contemporary-style
sofas topped with neutral-colored pillows, a mod rectangular fireplace, and a shelf holding
travel-themed objects and a collection design books. The chic, modern ambience continues into the adjacent breakfast lounge and guest rooms. Guests are mostly business travelers, but solo vacationers find their way here too.

beige patterned carpeting. The furniture is minimal, consisting of little more than beds and desks, giving the rooms a dorm look. Bathrooms are cramped: Bathtubs, which double as showers, are tiny, and sinks are squeezed in between the toilets and tubs. All the rooms come with free
Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, toiletries, and air purifiers (very common
