Quality Inn & Suites Beachfront

With its beach-pink exterior, this Quality Inn & Suites Beachfront is a budget-friendly chain hotel that draws families and couples for its fantastic location just a block from the beach. The hotel has done a lot of updates and refurbishment projects since 2016, including new hallway carpet, replacing lobby furniture, new gym equipment, adding an ozone generator and UV light system for the pool, and upgrading the Wi-Fi system. That’s not to say that the hotel has a modern design -- it’s still homey and chain-inspired. The lobby is small, but offers cozy couches and armchairs for those waiting to check in. The breakfast room is simple with golden walls, wooden chairs, and some beach-inspired decor. Though guests note clean rooms, many have commented on cleanliness issues in public spaces like the hallways and elevators. Overall, it’s a good pick for a relaxed atmosphere and low prices across the street from the beach. 

Despite the name, Quality Inn & Suites Beachfront is not directly on the beach. There’s a couple of restaurants (like a McDonald's) and a road between the hotel and the sand. The location is pretty great as there are plenty of dining options on surrounding streets and the Galveston Island Convention Center is just a five-minute walk away. It’s a 12-minute drive to Moody Gardens and the Historic Downtown Galveston. Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark takes seven minutes to reach by car. The William P. Hobby Airport of Houston is about a 45-minute drive away. 

Rooms here are spacious enough and decorated in a simple contemporary style with warm tones like green bed coverlets, peach accent walls, warm wooden furniture, and carpet with elegant flower patterns. Since 2016, the hotel has replaced the beds, bedding, pillows, and lamps in all the rooms. The flat-screen TVs also got a 135-channel DIRECTV upgrade. Amenities include air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, microwaves, coffeemakers, mini-fridges, and safes. Suites have sofa beds and some rooms offer partial ocean views. Bathrooms are simple and come with shower/tub combos, hairdryers, and toiletries. 

Features at Quality Inn & Suites Beachfront are about what you’d expect, though the proximity to the beach is the biggest draw. Though some guests are disappointed by an indoor swimming pool here, it makes sense, as Galveston does get cold during the winter. There’s a small gym with three cardio machines and a weight machine, though no free weights. The free breakfast buffet includes hot items like eggs, sausage, waffles, and biscuits and gravy. Free perks include Wi-Fi, parking, and popcorn in the evenings. A business center with public computers and printers are available, as is a coin-operated laundry room. Parking is free in the outdoor lot.
